Ecclesiastes 4:7-8

Lesson # Eccl. 4:7-8
Study Material - Eccl. 4:7-8

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Eccl. 4:7-8

7 Then I looked again at vanity under the sun. 8 There was a certain man without a dependent, having neither a son nor a brother, yet there was no end to all his labor. Indeed, his eyes were not satisfied with riches and he never asked, 'And for whom am I laboring and depriving myself of pleasure?' This too is vanity and it is a grievous task.

Sometimes the pursuit of things leaves us out of touch from life. We get so engulfed in our objective, is becomes an obsession. We do not take the opportunity to enjoy that which we do have. One person alone seeks no second person to share his life. He stands alone wishing only for his single belly and possessions. He is under the sun. He is inside creation. None of us are outside of this creation. None of us are above it, nor beyond it in any form. We are a part of creation and therefore a part of Gods plan for all of humanity as well as the conclusion of the angelic conflict (which predates us all by a very long time).

Yet there is this single mindedness to work for ones self and for no one else. No caring for another, no concern for the status of others. No fun in life either. No desire for marriage, no desire for children to leave something of value, or even improve their opportunities in life.

This single person has no eye for wealth. He does not pursue riches, yet he is never satisfied with that which he can accumulate. It is never enough. There is no contentment, no sense of accomplishment. He will, as we all will, meet the end of his life, and therein is the doom of his existence.

God has given us many things to look to in life. We look up and see the stars in the night sky. We look around and see pleasant potential mates of the opposite sex. Life is full of foods, geography, colors of the day and night. Life is full of plants and animals. God has dressed all of creation and we see it everyday of our life, yet we sometimes do not see it because we are obsessed with our drive for more and more, even if that 'more', is just in our getting by from paycheck to paycheck.

There are seasons in the year - Spring, summer, fall, and winter. There daylight and night time. We have periods when we work, when we rest, and should have periods when we enjoy the finer things of life whether it be our marriage mate in the privacy of our homes, or an concert in a public setting.

God did not design our lives to be hardships for this life. God designed a garden in which He placed man, but of course man screwed that one up as we all do sooner or later in our lives.

The Christian life, the spiritual life is designed for having the best of the best, not having this nonsense of self sacrifice 'for God' stuff. You cannot work for God. Her does not need your work. He has already done all of the work that is necessary in life for you. So any form of self persecution, or self inflicted hardship is foolish.

To live our life without God, leaves us with the life given us in the jungle. There are those who may just get by and care nothing for anyone but themselves, as in this verse. God did not intend for us to look after for number one only. That is selfishness and arrogance. God does intend for us to accumulate wealth of some type, but not through our own sweat, but by means of His grace plan for us, through spiritual growth.

This advancement to spiritual maturity brings to you blessings with which you will be given the opportunity to help others either in the advancement of Gods teaching to others, through charity giving, or both. We are also expected to enjoy that which we do have.

To live ones life with no one else in our life, helping no one else, caring nothing for anyone else, is a life of a lonely fool. In this the fool misses out on all that life has to offer, which is far more than what the life of a loner can accomplish for himself.

A grievous task? A wasted life! Vanity (emptiness, nothingness) under the sun. If you want nothing to show for your life, then this is the example of a fool to follow. But there is so much more to life. The Christian life is not being a quiet mouse in the church, but a spiritually wealthy person, confident, poised, courageous, responsible, and so much more. But first and foremost, obedient to the study of Gods Word on a daily basis.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
