Ecclesiastes 4:13-16

Lesson # Eccl. 4:13-16
Study Material - Eccl. 4:13-16

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Eccl. 4:13-16

13 A poor, yet wise lad is better than an old and foolish king who no longer knows how to receive instruction. 14 For he has come out of prison to become king, even though he was born poor in his kingdom. 15 I have seen all the living under the sun throng to the side of the second lad who replaces him. 16 There is no end to all the people, to all who were before them, and even the ones who will come later will not be happy with him, for this too is vanity and striving after wind.

Neither wealth, nor rank, nor title, nor position, nor credentials, nor anything else in this life will last to all generations. We look to leaders and their successors, but are never satisfied. During the transition process, whether an election or by some royal protocol. The people are filled with great excitement and anticipation. There is a desire for something new, a desire to see what changes will occur that will somehow magically change for the better, the lives of the masses.

But life continues the same as before. Nothing new happens. Certainly events change, a new crisis, and new situation, and leaders either rise up to the occasion or they do not. Sometimes events are international. Sometimes events are local.

No matter what the leaders background or talent there will be supporters and opponents. All will do what they can to hold or remove power from the current leadership.

Here we have a comparison between a poor youth and a very well placed leader. The poor youth has many disadvantages from the worlds point of view. In being poor, the world gives no credibility to his counsel. In being young, still no credit to knowledge is given. The old have it in their minds, as well as many who are not old, that wisdom comes with age. Not entirely so however.

The outcome of both contrasted parties is given. The youth, tough poor, but wise in Bible doctrine, is far superior to the rich king. The poor youth has neither authority, nor resources with which to weld his opinions. The rich man has all of the ingredients to enforce his policies, yet just merely having earthly resources does not make one the better person.

Jesus Christ controls history, not the youth, not the king. The poor youth can be made king. The king can be made poor at Gods will and discretion, and neither party could have anything to say about their respective futures.

Joseph was removed from prison and elevated to the second highest ranking position in Egypt. David was anointed king, though he was but a shepherd boy.

The jungle depends on the resume' of the individual, the experience, the education, the abilities, the history of stability, yet these alone do not insure success. The spiritual life of the individual makes success a certainty for that individual because it is God who is directing the life of the individual, not the whims of the jungle.

The jungle will follow one leader, then his successor, and with both there is great pomp at the outset of the leaders entrance into office, but that honeymoon is always followed by displeasure and the want for change. Today they cheer 'Hosanna', tomorrow they scream 'Crucify.' Even Jesus Christ did not have a loyal following in His time of need, save that of God the Father and the Holy Spirit alone.

So we conclude this proverb with a single thought. No matter what you look to in this world, if God is excluded from your life, then all you think, want, and do will come to a disgusting end.

You cannot hustle in life for a better existence. You cannot isolate yourself from this world to gain better for your self. You cannot make alliances to improve your odds in life. You cannot look to others as leaders who might have plans to solve all your problems, for your better existence.

If you have Bible doctrine in your life, then certainly you have knowledge of these avenues of life, but you look to them not as tickets to beat out your competition, but as guides in common sense. You look to God to direct and guide your life rather than the world, and God will bring the proper thoughts, the proper plans, the proper ideas into your mind, such that you will have better opportunities at making better decisions for your self, your family, your business and so forth.

Spiritual growth is better than having an ace in the hole. You'll have that royal flush constantly at your disposal. So long as you make a consistent commitment to stick with your spiritual growth, God will continue to deal you the best of the best. Regardless of your assigned station in life (God assigns us to that specific place in life where He wants us to be), then your life will be fulfilled, and will present the best opportunities for your continued spiritual advancement which will maximize your eternal future rewards.

Remember that Moses was the crowned prince, heir to the throne of Egypt. He had all the wealth and power that Egypt had to offer, at his fingertips. He turned his back on that worldly opportunity for the even greater wealth of rewards that God had waiting for him in eternity. How many of us, if we were suddenly handed an endless supply of checks to the treasury of the USA (that is trillions of dollars mind you), could turn it all down in favor of our spiritual life which is a promise of far, far greater riches in eternity? The checks you could see and have today, but you would lose your spiritual status (don't be foolish enough to think that with all that wealth you would still study your Bible). The promise of eternal rewards takes a lot of faith.

Of course we do not have that rich of a choice, but we do have less dramatic daily choices with respect to God or the absence of Him in our lives. Moses had that choice and he made the right choice. Everyday each one of us has to decide and decide continually throughout our life.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
