Ecclesiastes 5:8-9

Lesson # Eccl. 5:8-9
Study Material - Eccl. 5:8-9

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Eccl. 5:8-9

8 If you see oppression of the poor and denial of justice and righteousness in the province, do not be shocked at the sight, for one official watches over another official, and there are higher officials over them. 9 After all, a king who cultivates the field is an advantage to the land.

There are two spheres in which we have an opportunity to live. The jungle as we have called it throughout this study, is the first sphere, and is that which all peoples live at one time or another. Actually most people live within this sphere all of their lives. The second sphere is that sphere of fellowship.

The first sphere is that which we can see. It is the world around us. It is our environment whether good or bad. It has Gods common grace applications and the fundamental laws which God has placed on mankind in order to preserve them. Those laws or as some call them, divine establishments, being volition, marriage, family, nationalism, free enterprise or economic systems of commerce, general morals from which we develop our norms and standards in society. All of these and more have significant influences on society even now, and since the time of Adam.

But these laws of the jungle are not fair laws, because they are subject to the abuses of man with his sin nature. People take advantage of others. People cheat others. People drive weaker persons into debt, or oppression of one type or another. All manner of crime prevails in the jungle. Politics, social injustices, legal disadvantages for the poor or the out numbered, prejudices, biases, the list is endless.

We can read in the news daily how one problem or event has placed someone in harms way, or how people suffer from various events in the world, whether in some legal setting, or in violence, or in some con game by smooth talking people. Children are kidnapped and abused, never to be seen again. Women are abused in other countries, simply because of they are women.

There is nothing in life that should shock us even though we will probably see or hear about some pretty disgusting things. Why? Because Jesus Christ controls history. Why does He allow bad things to happen? Because His wisdom is greater than ours. God has a plan for human history, and it includes every aspect of disgusting thing that you can imagine.

Long ago, Satan rebelled against God and was judged. Satan appealed this ruling and human history came along to solve the matter. Throughout the book of Job, Satan discloses his complaints. He challenges everything, so God allows every conceivable set of circumstances to occur in history, such that, when history is concluded, there will be no valid argument against God. God is the wisest of all.

Jesus Christ controls history. He does this in three ways - directly, He does whatever is necessary to allow something to occur, or to prevent something to occur. He spoke and the universe was created. He parted the waters and the Israelites were not destroyed. Second, He controls history indirectly. He gives us Bible doctrine through which we can make decisions. He give man volition with which to make right or wrong decisions. He provided the laws of establishment in which all peoples could function in the world. Third Jesus Christ controls history permissively. He allows people to make wrong decisions, even when it will make them miserable. He controls groups of peoples through the functions of opposing evil groups. One evil nation may attack another evil nation in order to allow the administration of Gods wrath on the latter nation. The Israelites were invaded on numerous occasions in order to be punished by God. Diseases run rampant and kill millions because of poor hygiene, or poor social practices.

This passage addresses the oppressions that many suffer at the hands of those who are in positions of authority and abuse their power from those positions. Every person has a superior, and mankind is on the lowest of the rungs of the ladder where authority is concerned. There are levels of angels in positions of observation, review and decision making. Above them is the ultimate authority - God who has total control over all aspects of history. All aspects. Let there be no mistake. Nothing happens that God does not allow to happen.

Events occur in history to people to discipline them, to bless them, to wake them up to doctrine, to wake them up to their negative attitude, to punish them, to build up character in the positive believer, to bring peoples attention to a matter either personally or from a distance. God has total control, and no one gets away with anything. Though we may see injustices happening, rest assured that God has all of the facts, and the guilty will be brought to justice. Even if we do not see that justice applied.

Even the king of the planet, leaders in all manner of positions on earth, are served by the components of the earth just as we all are. No person is placed here to take advantage of others, though this is often the objective of many who seek power and position. They abuse their positions and presume that since they have something that most others do not have (money, wealth, position, ability, credentials, status, etc.) They misuse what they have and look down on those who have less.

The advantage of the land belongs to all. God placed the world here. God placed the air. God placed all the minerals, plants, animals, and so forth, on this planet. God placed all wealth here. God gave us all life, IQ, and everything else you can think of. We all have disproportionate shares of earthly characteristics. But none of us was given the right to presume ourselves better than anyone else. Even in our greatest of positions, we are but dust. The greatest of men are no better than worms. There is no place for boasting on earth.

The struggle in the jungle is the struggle of those who try to improve their desires at the expense of others, and that is the sad history of mankind. Apart from God there is no justice, no fairness in life.

Opt to live in the jungle apart from God, and you live by the roll of the dice. Your luck will always run out - for some, sooner, for others, later.
Opt to live in this jungle from within the sphere of fellowship and you totally discount the effects that the jungle has on you. It swirls around you, but God take personal charge of your life and guides you safely through whatever storm or hardship might pursue you.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
