Ecclesiastes 5:10-12

Lesson # Eccl. 5:10-12
Study Material - Eccl. 5:10-12

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Eccl. 5:10-12

10 He who loves money will not be satisfied with money, nor he who loves abundance with its income. This too is vanity. 11 When good things increase, those who consume them increase. So what is the advantage to their owners except to look on? 12 The sleep of the working man is pleasant, whether he eats little or much. But the full stomach of the rich man does not allow him to sleep.

We have two areas in our life in which we may give over our love - things, or God. Those who are driven by their senses and pursue that which they can see, touch, hold, possess, something that seems tangible and of available for them to invest or use in trade (shopping), they will never gain nor keep. No matter what ones gains in life, it will be lost sooner or later, and it will never be enough. The desires of this world are insatiable. The belly of desire is never filled.

Here the love of money is used as an example, but that is just an example. Anyone who lives and breathes either pursues Gods wisdom through their own personal study of Bible doctrine, or they pursue the things of the world.

The world is a big place with many options of pursuit. Whether that pursuit be a career, or an empire, contentment with an 8 to 5 job, or endless hustle for more (of whatever it is you are trying to gain in life), makes no difference. Both are vanity. In fact all efforts in this world. All efforts expended for anything and everything in this world (when God is excluded from ones life), are totally worthless. They gain you nothing.

If you gain anything of significance, then there are always other burdens which accompany that increase. Sometimes wealth brings 'friends' who will 'help' you enjoy that wealth. The leaches will crawl out of the woodwork. There are always those who will bring you heartache, legal skirmishes, the need for more security of various types from locks to insurance. So the increases bring more burdens whether in the form of more people to help maintain that wealth, or in the form of the problems that more people bring with them, or the challenges that others bring with them. More labor, more labor problems. More management, more management problems. More customers, more customer problems. More prosperity, more criminal types to take it away from you. More social activities, more gossip. More of anything brings more worries, less sleep, more things to be concerned about.

A laborer who simply works his daily job and then goes home has little enough to worry about. He just needs to get from one payday to the next. His sleep is better - fewer problems, but not zero problems, just smaller ones by comparison to the extremely wealthy.

The wealthy has problems up the ying-yang, but more than that, the quest of the wealthy, or those who pursue wealth, never ceases. They never have enough. They are never satisfied. There is always 'more' out there to be acquired. Thus their life is endless restlessness.

This restlessness is not limited to the extremely wealthy and their pursuit, it applies equally to all peoples who ignore their spiritual life. The housewife who rejects Bible doctrine is never happy. The bum who rarely works, will never be happy. He'll always complain about the system. The 8 to 5 worker will never be happy. There is never enough to keep things in good repair - thus problems in the life as things break down. The upper middle class person who has many things, still lacks that next step in life, that next thing of desire, though his comfort level has sort of lulled him to sleep where it comes to his spiritual life. There are still 'things' to be acquired. Though comfortable there is no real contentment.

The world cannot create capacity for the things that it provides. Only Bible doctrine can create the capacity for the appreciation and orientation to the blessings of life regardless of what they may be. The pursuit of things whether they be stereos, cars, homes, vacations, retirement funds, portfolios, empires, all are useless in the life, if God is excluded from the life. No spiritual life means no true happiness -all is vanity (empty).

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
