Ecclesiastes 5:18-20

Lesson # Eccl. 5:18-20
Study Material - Eccl. 5:18-20

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Eccl. 5:18-20

18 Here is what I have seen to be good and fitting: to eat, to drink and enjoy oneself in all one's labor in which he toils under the sun during the few years of his life which God has given him; for this is his reward. 19 Furthermore, as for every man to whom God has given riches and wealth, He has also empowered him to eat from them and to receive his reward and rejoice in his labor; this is the gift of God. 20 For he will not often consider the years of his life, because God keeps him occupied with the gladness of his heart.

One for one, and all for one. Eat, drink, and be merry. These are the slogans of the negative person. These are the objectives. They focus on themselves, their careers, their life style, their goals in life to retire behind that white picket fence and so forth. Their focus on life is just as far as their next vacation or their review of their pension plan.

Thus far we have studied in this chapter the futility of a negative attitude toward God. One can either hustle in life, or be a recluse, or be something in between. We have studied the futility of wealth. With it comes not tranquility but more problems and more burdens. We are going to study one more chapter, chapter 6, and see the futility of life. When God is not in ones life, there is a huge vacuum in ones life that can never be filled by any substitute. There is no substitute.

But God gives us rules for the various functions of creation. Through discovery we can either understand people, or not. We can either invent better toys for our lives, or better things with which to take advantage of people. The possibilities in the jungle are endless of course. And, the jungle is not without its risks. So all is not rosy. There are thorns among the petals. Some seen, some not seen.

Over all of this, the jungle rules, are overlaid the rules of the spiritual life. When pursued in the life, they diminish the impact that the jungle can have on us as individuals. There are advantages in the spiritual rules of life, and these advantages are available to all who pursue them, unlike the rules of the jungle which pick and choose who will be blessed and who will be run over.

This is why God has given us rules of the jungle, to give some semblance of blessing to those who will be negative throughout their life. Compared to eternity, our life on this planet is very short. Some will live 80 years, some 18. There are many unknowns when living within the jungle alone. Tomorrow is never guaranteed. But for those few brief years, however many or few they may be, God gives those negative people some taste of happiness, because it will be their only taste of happiness, ever.

For unbelievers, when their life ends, their trouble will increase dramatically. They will be bound for Torments. This is not a bar with drinks and jokes. There are no virgins. Is seems sort of contradictory that a god would promote some sort of sinful lust as a reward for martyrs, especially when god is supposed to be perfect. I have wondered where all of these virgins come from. Is that promise the same for the women that blow themselves up? There are many religions in this world, even in Christianity, there are many misguided policies that simply screw up peoples lives. But then they all have a choice and they choose not the common sense conclusion if the errors of these false philosophies, but the false policies themselves. They choose the world and in so doing it becomes their portion, their reward in life.

Believers who have drifted off the correct path through their own negative attitude, have their rewards in this life as well. They forfeit their eternal 'extra' rewards. These are spelled out in the first three chapters of Revelation. Those chapters are addressed to believers, by the way.

Also, when we study these concepts we are to look in the mirror of the Word of God and apply them to ourselves, not to others. We have no right, no authority to judge others, with one exception and that is the parents authority over their children. And that parents responsibility is to teach their children in hopes that something will be learned. You cannot force learning, but you can hope I suppose.

All prosperity that comes to all of mankind, if Gods gift, Gods grace. No one, no matter how arrogant, can ever earn what they have. They do not consider their years, they do not consider the impact of their decisions on their eternal life, or they draw wrong conclusions. Conclusions that are more convenient to their liking. So God allows even the worst of people to enjoy from the fruits of this world. It is the only enjoyment they will ever have. In so doing God allows them to be preoccupied with their 'things' of life, which they decide is their hearts gladness, and that there is no more.

God still provides His wisdom, from a variety of sources, in an attempt to redirect the thinking of negative people, but God does not interfere with a persons freedom to make decisions, even wrong decisions. In so doing, people become preoccupied with themselves, and the things of their life, whatever those 'things' might be.

For the negative person, the pursuit of life, whatever it is, becomes a distraction away from Gods Word, and a preoccupation with the false concepts of this world. Excuses abound as to why there is no time for the study of Gods Word. So, as Esau traded his birth right for a meal to satisfy his belly for the moment, so people all over the world make daily decisions trading their eternal future for the immediate satisfactions from the things of this world. Not a good trade.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
