Exodus 1:10-14

Lesson # Exodus 1:10-14
Study Material - Exodus 1:10-14

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Ex. 1:10-14

10 Come, let us deal wisely with them, lest they multiply and in the event of war, they also join themselves to those who hate us, and fight against us, and depart from the land.' 11 So they appointed taskmasters over them to afflict them with hard labor. And they built for Pharaoh storage cities, Pithom and Raamses. 12 But the more they afflicted them, the more they multiplied and the more they spread out, so that they were in dread of the sons of Israel. 13 And the Egyptians compelled the sons of Israel to labor rigorously; 14 and they made their lives bitter with hard labor in mortar and bricks and at all kinds of labor in the field, all their labors which they rigorously imposed on them.

Pharaoh set out the plot. The Israelites were good at what they did. They were builders and farmers and shepherds, and to this end they were utilized within the nation of Egypt. They built cities, made bricks, and they labored in the fields.

In chapter 2, we begin with the Israelites some 400 years later. The first chapter covers their entire history of slavery, or a period of 400 years give or take. What happened? They grew to like the land of Egypt, but they were foreigners, and therefore not accepted by the natural citizens, as Egyptians. They grew away from Bible doctrine.

Pharaoh, and this is a series of Pharaoh's during these four centuries, grew more harsh in the treatment of the Jews. In the beginning they were used to build cities. Probably did some design, and layout work. This is the city of Pithom. It is mentioned first and though most archeologists do not agree where it was built, they do generally agree that it was built in the 1800 or 1700's BC, while the city of Raamses, which probably lies in the region named Raamses, was built in the 1600 or 1500's BC.

Pithom means 'city of the setting sun', which is appropriate as the sun was setting on their former life. The name Raamses means, 'Land of Ra', or 'Ra created him.' By this time the god of Egypt, Ra, absorbed many Jewish followers. God even threatened to destroy them because they turned to the gods of Egypt, Eze. 20:8.

Over the four centuries the Israelites moved further and further away from God, and they moved closer and closer to embrace the life of Egypt. And what did it get them? Greater misery. They were never accepted as Egyptians. They were foreigners and would always be foreigners.

The point in this lesson is simply that the more you ignore your Bible study, the more miserable your life will become. Embracing sin, or better stated, the more you embrace a life without Bible doctrine in it, your life will move further and further into a deep pit of despair.
What else happened? They grew greater in number. They prospered to some extent. The task masters grew more harsh as time went by. Later Pharaoh's grew more harsh. Yet the Israelites grew in numbers. Even the plan to kill all male children failed.

The more they embraced the Egyptian way, the worse things got. And the worse things got, the more they embraced Egypt. It was a nonsense spiral downward. They wanted the very thing that they were being burdened by. And such is the way of the godless life.

Ignore God, ignore Jesus Christ in your life, ignore your daily Bible study and your life will become miserable. To some extent folks around you will be miserable because of their association with you. Bad luck sometimes rubs off on others. On the other hand, if you are associated with a mature believer, then some of their blessing will rub off on you and will limit your misery, but you will still be miserable.

The Israelites embraced Egypt. The vast majority of them did this and were collectively miserable. There were certainly a few mature believers within their ranks over the four centuries, and to these few, God poured out blessings such that the nation continued. That is blessing by association, or cursing by association depending on which side of the coin you happen to be living.

From dealing wisely - designing cities, to dealing harshly - making bricks, over the four centuries the lives of the Jews deteriorated greatly. And note, they could have left on their own. Moses left on his own.

Early on, the Jews had opportunity but no doctrine in their souls, therefore opportunity was lost. Later on, their opportunity turned to balls and chains yielding them with still fewer opportunities. Wrong decisions limit ones opportunities. Right decisions give one greater opportunities. Bible doctrine in the soul is the greatest example of making the right decisions. The spiritual life when embraced, yields the maximum in life, but it is only a potential. It depends entirely on your positive daily volition on Bible study, and more than that, in learning correctly Gods Word and applying it to your life.

The Israelites here, give us a perfect example of what can and will happen to anyone who rejects or ignores Gods Word in their life. This is a picture of the nation over several generations, but the principle applies to every individual over their life span as well.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
