Exodus 5:12-19

Lesson # Exodus 5:12-19
Study Material - Exodus 5:12-19

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Ex. 5:12-19

12 So the people scattered through all the land of Egypt to gather stubble for straw. 13 And the taskmasters pressed them, saying, 'Complete your work quota, your daily amount, just as when you had straw.' 14 Moreover, the foremen of the sons of Israel, whom Pharaoh's taskmasters had set over them, were beaten and were asked, 'Why have you not completed your required amount either yesterday or today in making brick as previously?' 15 Then the foremen of the sons of Israel came and cried out to Pharaoh, saying, 'Why do you deal this way with your servants? 16 'There is no straw given to your servants, yet they keep saying to us, 'Make bricks!' And behold, your servants are being beaten; but it is the fault of your own people.' 17 But he said, 'You are lazy, very lazy; therefore you say, 'Let us go and sacrifice to the LORD.' 18 'So go now and work; for you shall be given no straw, yet you must deliver the quota of bricks.' 19 And the foremen of the sons of Israel saw that they were in trouble because they were told, 'You must not reduce your daily amount of bricks.'

No one is at fault here but Pharaoh for his abusive use of his power, and the Hebrews and their negative attitude toward God, and in some little way Moses and Aaron for their last (second and unauthorized) attempt to convince Pharaoh to let the people go. Recall that they went beyond Gods command and implied that they would be punished by God if Pharaoh did not let them go to worship God in the desert.

Before all of this, cut up (properly processed) straw was provided to them for the construction of bricks. Now this was stopped. They had to go out and find stubble (not straw), a poorer quality of straw, clean it themselves and cut it up for its use in the making of bricks. This added to their work load and reduced their productivity.

Punishment for not producing runs down hill and the Hebrews were at the bottom of the hill. The taskmasters were responsible to Pharaoh. If they failed, then it was their neck. Consequently, their tensions were released on the Hebrews. So the Hebrews failed in their production quota's and were beaten.

The Hebrews run to Pharaoh and find out why they have been given this extra burden. 'You are lazy, very lazy; therefore you say, 'Let us go and sacrifice to the LORD.' Ah!, so now it is Moses fault. Now we all know just why this additional burden was placed on the Hebrews. Or so they now think.

Wasn't it just a short while ago the Hebrews were bowing down in worship because of the announcement of their soon to be acquired freedom? Were they not told that Pharaoh would be asked and that he would refuse and that God would bring miracles against him and that he would eventually release them?

Life does not work out that way. This is the devils world and the world brings barriers and burdens on all believers. Pharaoh will be unreasonable. The world will be unreasonable. Understand it and expect it. People will have unreasonable expectations in life. People you deal with will be ungrateful. They will be unreasonable and selfish in their dealings with you. If the economy turns downward and brings pressures on everyone, others will still expect more out of you despite the changes in the world. Do not expect sympathy or even consideration for whatever changes in the world that obviously affect you as they do others. Negative people think nothing of your situation, they think only of their own selfishness.

Positive believers, on the other hand need to turn to God, not Pharaoh, for relief of their burdens. We turn to God in prayer. The Hebrews went crying to Pharaoh. They should have just stuck to the new program, thought up some new and better way of organizing the gathering of straw and moved forward. If they fail then they fail. If they succeed then they succeed. Either way they are not going to be given any consideration from Pharaoh. In addition they should have fallen back on their faith and the promises that God has given them, and just wait. If God promises it, then all will be accomplished in due course.

So life gives us bad rolls of the dice on occasion. So what! None of us are perfect, nor are any of us exempt from difficulties. We all have money problems. We all have family problems. We all have business problems, work problems, etc. Just stick to your guns and keep on doing what you do on a daily basis. Leave the real problems to God . How do you do that?

You study every day. You learn Bible doctrine. You keep yourself in fellowship. You grow up spiritually. You learn and memorize Bible verses. You think of the concepts you learn, and ponder them. This is the Christian life and your secret path to success in life.

In the mean time, you continue going to work. You continue looking for work. You keep on doing whatever it is you do daily. You move forward. You think of alternatives to whatever it is you do in life.

What you do not do it turn to something that will help you escape life's pressures. No bottles, no drugs, etc. That is the cowards way out. Spiritual growth brings courage, which is strengthened by faith. And a courageous person of faith cannot fail in life. Regardless of what life throws at him.

The Hebrews were weak in their faith obviously, and they discovered that they were in deep doggie doo, so they panicked. Their fear of Pharaoh (the world) was greater than their fear of God. Yet God is faithful because He sees some in this generation that were faithful. He also sees others in future generations that will be faithful as well (that is you and me). If God had thrown in the towel back then, you and I would not be here today.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
