Exodus 10:21-29

Lesson # Exodus 10:21-29
Study Material - Exodus 10:21-29

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Ex. 10:21-29

21 Then the LORD said to Moses, 'Stretch out your hand toward the sky, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even a darkness which may be felt.' 22 So Moses stretched out his hand toward the sky, and there was thick darkness in all the land of Egypt for three days. 23 They did not see one another, nor did anyone rise from his place for three days, but all the sons of Israel had light in their dwellings. 24 Then Pharaoh called to Moses, and said, 'Go, serve the LORD; only let your flocks and your herds be detained. Even your little ones may go with you.' 25 But Moses said, 'You must also let us have sacrifices and burnt offerings, that we may sacrifice them to the LORD our God. 26 Therefore, our livestock, too, will go with us; not a hoof will be left behind, for we shall take some of them to serve the LORD our God. And until we arrive there, we ourselves do not know with what we shall serve the LORD.' 27 But the LORD hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he was not willing to let them go. 28 Then Pharaoh said to him, 'Get away from me! Beware, do not see my face again, for in the day you see my face you shall die!' 29 And Moses said, 'You are right; I shall never see your face again!'

The locusts devastated the land and Pharaoh is still defiant to the point of rage. He is angry with everyone, especially this situation which has pitted himself against the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. His rule is being questioned even by his own upper class in Egypt.

Pharaoh refuses to be responsible in his position. God has placed him in the position of rule. We studied that principle in Daniel. Yet Pharaoh thinks only of himself rather than those who are under his authority. His people, his country, all have taken it very hard. But then the citizens of Egypt are not so innocent themselves. We have already studied in Ex. 9:15, that the hearts of the nation have been hardened (those who have been negative thus far). Who stood up for Moses or the Hebrews during all of these plagues? No one. Even Moses' own people stood back to watch these events unfold. Originally complaining of the lack of straw, thinking it more important than Gods promise.

Nothing in life is more important than ones own spiritual growth, for through that conduit (spiritual growth) comes all support that you will receive from God. Without it, then your support comes from the jungle and now we are going to see just how much light exists in the jungle - none.

Plague number nine, darkness. Not just any darkness. Not an eclipse. Not a sandstorm. Not a heavy fog. This darkness was like having the black of concrete being poured all around you sealing out all light. Even the light from the Egyptian lamps and fires was canceled out. This darkness sealed each person off from the entire world. No sound, no light. Total isolation. Total aloneness. It lasted for three days straight.

No harm was dome. No property damaged. No person was injured or met with death. Just aloneness, and that is exactly what life is like without God . Imagine three days of darkness as compared to an eternity of total separation from God and all else. There will not be any saloons in Hell, no parties, or carousing. Only total aloneness and total agony of the fires of Hell to boot. The religion of Islam has been in the news a lot lately and the incentives that these terrorists have for giving up their lives in pursuit of 20 virgins in their make believe heaven. No such prize awaits them.

Pharaoh and Egypt is given a taste of their separation from God, in these three days of darkness. Then when it ends, Pharaoh again sends for Moses. Note that it is Pharaoh who is sending for Moses all the time. Not the reverse.

Pharaoh is in a rage. The text of the Hebrew indicates it is ever increasing, and it will conclude with his final threat in Ex. 11:8, 'hot anger'. Pharaoh sorely wants to have some say in all of these negotiations. But with God, there is no negotiating. His word stands alone and is separate from all the philosophies of the world, from all the plots and plans that people desire in this world. There is only one way to heaven, and that is by means of Gods authorized plan - Jesus Christ and the Cross. The principle of our sins being passed over with respect to their judgment against us, and placed on Christ is very close now to being presented.

Pharaoh still wants to dictate terms. Everyone can go but the livestock must stay. Moses rejects this immediately. Everyone goes. Nothing remains behind. We go where God will lead us. Not knowing specifically where that is, or what we are to expect when we get there, and that is the principle of the spiritual life. Cast all your cares on Him. Stand fast and watch His deliverance. Knowing that whatever awaits us through Gods leadership, will be far better than what this world can provide.

Pharaoh and Egypt saw the plagues, and they did not see the principles they taught. God is by far more powerful than mankind. God has the power and the authority to command nature and beast at his will. Now they will see nothing. They will be enclosed in total separation from the world and they were for three days. Yet still they learned nothing, except they now fear Moses to some degree. For he is what they see and hear. They still cannot see beyond their five senses. The spiritual portion of our lives is beyond the tangible world - impossible for man to measure or quantify. God alone can do that.

The next and final plague requires some preparation. Grace always precedes judgment. Pharaoh screams at Moses to leave him and to never come back lest he be executed immediately. The chapter ends this way, but the conversation actually continues to verse eight of the next chapter, with one final warning. The first born of every home will certainly die, and nothing will stop it. Imagine the fear and panic that will spread throughout the nation. The plague is not going to happen the next day, but there will be several days of preparation before it occurs. Everyone is given one last opportunity to stand with the God of the Hebrews.

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
