Exodus 12:21-28

Lesson # Exodus 12:21-28
Study Material - Exodus 12:21-28

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Ex. 12:21-28

21 Then Moses called for all the elders of Israel, and said to them, 'Go and take for yourselves lambs according to your families, and slay the Passover lamb. 22 And you shall take a bunch of hyssop and dip it in the blood which is in the basin, and apply some of the blood that is in the basin to the lintel and the two doorposts; and none of you shall go outside the door of his house until morning. 23 For the LORD will pass through to smite the Egyptians; and when He sees the blood on the lintel and on the two doorposts, the LORD will pass over the door and will not allow the destroyer to come in to your houses to smite you. 24 And you shall observe this event as an ordinance for you and your children forever. 25 And it will come about when you enter the land which the LORD will give you, as He has promised, that you shall observe this rite. 26 And it will come about when your children will say to you, 'What does this rite mean to you?' 27 that you shall say,' It is a Passover sacrifice to the LORD who passed over the houses of the sons of Israel in Egypt when He smote the Egyptians, but spared our homes.' And the people bowed low and worshiped. 28 Then the sons of Israel went and did so; just as the LORD had commanded Moses and Aaron, so they did.

Most of the details of the coming event and ritual which is to be associated with it, the Passover Feast and ritual, have been explained, Some additional details are given in summery in our text, but we can assume that all the details were given to the people.

The assembly was called. God holds us accountable for listening to His commands. The truth comes from God alone, and any person with an once of brains should want to learn truth with respect to their life here on earth as well as what is in store for them after their death.

Again, the assembly was called and all are to report to it and listen. This is the call to all people to listen to Gods Word. Even today in our busy and speedy world of technology, we still have an obligation to listen and to learn Gods Word. To ignore or reject it is only placing the knife at our own throat. A spiritual suicide in effect.

Action is expected after hearing the Word of God. It is not enough to simply listen. Some thought as well as action, or application to ones life is required. For example, we hear the gospel. Our responsibility then is to believe. That is a thought process. After salvation, then we have the responsibility to learn, then think about what we learn, then apply to our daily lives that which we have learned. In other words we incorporate into our lives the morals, the principles of honesty (not being deceitful with people), etc., that we have learned. Especially the part about studying to become approved unto God, or in other words, daily study.

The people were to select the lamb, separate it from the flock, on the appointed day to bring it into the house and slaughter it in sacrificial style, catching in a basin a portion of the blood coming out of the cut throat.

Then they are to take, first, a common plant that grows low and generally on walls, 1 Kg. 4:33 and Jn. 19:29, and holding it by its stock, dip it into the blood and paint or spread the blood over the door posts and on top of the door. Then remain in the house until morning. During the time spent in the house they are to roast the lamb, and eat of it. All the while they are to be dresses and ready to leave at a moments notice. They are to burn all that is not eaten. The sacrifice is complete. Nothing is left half finished.

At midnight, the 'destroying angel', and this is a manifestation of Jesus Christ, will come and judge the first born of all of Egypt. Into His hands is placed the authority and power and execution of judgment. To those who have complied with Gods commands, the destroyer will pass over their homes, and all inside will be safe. To those who have refused, then death will come into the household. And not one disobedient home will escape death.

Notice that the command was just, it was clear, and it was powerful. There was not one complaint from the Hebrews. The plagues that they had witnessed, had convinced them that God was indeed extremely powerful and will do exactly what he says he will do.

Sometimes it takes a few jolts to ones life before the realization, that God is needed, comes into ones little brain. Some of course never get it.

We have seen in the study of the first chapter of Revelation that Jesus Christ has His hand securely on the lever of history. Arm flexed with a tight grip on that lever, ready to throw it at any moment. The rapture is near, the date of which we do not know. It could occur tonight, it could occur a hundred years from now. We do not know when it will occur. But also, that same hand is on the termination event of each one of our lives. We live today, but is tomorrow certain? No. God could call any or all of us home at any moment. Thus the principle of urgency with respect to learning Bible doctrine.

The Hebrews, now going to be known as the Israelites, the chosen of God, are commanded to be dressed and fed, ready to leave at a moments notice. The same principle applies to us. We are to be dressed (saved), fed (having knowledge of Bible doctrine in our soul), and otherwise ready to depart this life when God calls us home. With spiritual growth we are prepared to meet things in this life as well.

Further, we are to not only know and understand these principles, but to pass them on to our children. We cannot teach what we do not know. And subsequent generations will have a much easier time in life if they learn the principles of doctrine as taught in the Bible. The teaching is not a once in a life time event, but a repetitive study that continues throughout ones life.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
