Exodus 14:10-14

Lesson # Exodus 14:10-14
Study Material - Exodus 14:10-14

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Ex. 14:10-14

10 And as Pharaoh drew near, the sons of Israel looked, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them, and they became very frightened; so the sons of Israel cried out to the LORD. 11 Then they said to Moses, 'Is it because there were no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? Why have you dealt with us in this way, bringing us out of Egypt? 12 'Is this not the word that we spoke to you in Egypt, saying, 'Leave us alone that we may serve the Egyptians'? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.' 13 But Moses said to the people, 'Do not fear! Stand by and see the salvation of the LORD which He will accomplish for you today; for the Egyptians whom you have seen today, you will never see them again forever. 14 The LORD will fight for you while you keep silent.'

Pharaoh advanced in military order. The chariots came in fast kicking up dust most likely, such that the Israelites saw his coming from a distance. Followed by whatever foot soldiers were ordered into the march against the Israelites. Only the number of the chariot corps has been given clearly indicating the contrast between the two opposing forces.

The Israelites clearly out numbered the Egyptians, but the Israelites were cowards, and this is the principle of this passage. The Israelites lacked spiritual growth. Certainly they did not complain when they were being given the wealth of Egypt. They now had a great deal of gold, silver, clothing and so forth. They did not complain when they left Egypt and gathered at Succoth. That was a place of shelter as we have already studied. No pressure has been placed on them until now, and their first test (by the way this is the first of ten tests, Num. 14:22) was a big test to show that they are not the mechanism of their own deliverance.

Man is not the means of his own salvation, regardless of what people want to think about their lives or philosophies to which they subscribe. Courage is not conjured up from human abilities, but true courage comes only from Gods Word resident inside the soul of the mature believer in Christ.

They complained to God, then to Moses. They had their priorities backwards. When faced with pressure people naturally will complain to someone or something, as if somehow that complaining will get them out of their predicament. They complained to God to whom they should have been looking to in prayer and trust. God after all had their best intentions in mind for them. They instead wished that they were back in Egypt with Pharaoh, who had the worst of intentions for them, beginning with their slaughter here and now. 'Didn't we tell you, Moses, to leave us alone? Then we had no straw, now we die in the desert for no one to ever hear from us again????' And so went the complaints, sarcasm, bitterness and such.

Egypt was a land of tombs. Canaan is representative of a land of milk and honey. Egypt built pyramids (a place for the dead) as their legacy, beginning with the triangular shaped representations of the trinity (Father, Son, and Spirit) coming to one point at the top for the designation of one God in heaven, and was later distorted in its theological representation for the various false religions they conjured up in the centuries following the death of Ham. Remember Egypt is the land of Ham, Psa. 78, Psa. 105. That is, the land west of the Nile. The Land from the Nile to the Euphrates was given to Abraham.

The Israelites were spiritually immature, thus they lost their composure. They panicked as we all do when we are suddenly hit with some pressure that could potentially destroy us, or at least in our initial evaluation we think that our life is over. They were emotional. They had instantly forgotten the plagues of the past several months. They forgot who and what God really was - the 'El Shaddai', the All Mighty, All Powerful, 'I AM', the totally self sufficient and self sustaining one, 'Jehovah', eternally existing one, the one with whom they will be building up a personal relationship, the Son of God.

Why would God go through all these events in getting them out of Egypt, just to pull the rug out from under them out here in the desert? And hand a victory over to Pharaoh?

Their first command they received from God, through Moses? 'Fear not. Stand fast.' That is to say. Regain your composure, think, stabilize your thinking. Reason in your own mind that God is on your side and that God will never forsake you (though you will screw up many times in life). This does not give you the right to become irresponsible or reckless with your life or that of your family. But the first order of business is to stabilize your thinking, regain your poise, and look to what God has taught you for the options you need in life. If you are truly out of options, then you simply wait for God to reveal options. Don't panic. Don't make emotional knee jerk decisions. God never places us in a position that is too great for us to handle, neither does He place us in a totally inescapable position. God always provides us with a way out. It may not be clear at first, but in time His plan for our individual lives will become clear to us.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
