Exodus 14:21-25

Lesson # Exodus 14:21-25
Study Material - Exodus 14:21-25

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Ex. 14:21-25

21 Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea; and the LORD swept the sea back by a strong east wind all night, and turned the sea into dry land, so the waters were divided. 22 And the sons of Israel went through the midst of the sea on the dry land, and the waters were like a wall to them on their right hand and on their left. 23 Then the Egyptians took up the pursuit, and all Pharaoh's horses, his chariots and his horsemen went in after them into the midst of the sea. 24 And it came about at the morning watch, that the LORD looked down on the army of the Egyptians through the pillar of fire and cloud and brought the army of the Egyptians into confusion. 25 And He caused their chariot wheels to swerve, and He made them drive with difficulty; so the Egyptians said, 'Let us flee from Israel, for the LORD is fighting for them against the Egyptians.'

If you have seen the movie, then it probably looked something like that. Imagine that wall of fire separating the Israelites from the Egyptians. Moses stretches his staff in hand out over the water and the winds swept back the sea, carving a long and wide path in the water, drying the sea bed and making a way to freedom for the Israelites.

There are several representations of a spiritual nature in all of this. The Lord provided a way of deliverance. The Israelites, through faith (thought they were afraid), still obeyed Gods command and they, all two million of them proceeded through the sea with walls of water rising high on either side of them.

God followed their progress, the pillar of fire proceeded behind then Israelites, Isa. 58:8. It was separating the two forces remember. Righteousness preceded them, and justice followed. God provided a rear guard of protection. He Egyptians, in confusion, followed into the sea. They were a much smaller force, yet their wheels came off. Their chariots became unsteerable (perhaps the horses were in a state of panic of sorts). The Egyptians suddenly discovered they were in a trap now (walls of water on both sides). Their only means of escape was to retreat back in the direction of Egypt. Egypt - the land of tombs. The land of the dead. There is no life in tombs, no prosperity, no boasting, no destiny.

This single event will cause terror in the Canaanites, Josh. 2:9-10, even forty years later. The parting of the Jordan will further that terror. It will be the ruin of the Egyptians as we will see in a few verses. This was a pattern of baptism, and identification with Gods work, 1 Cor. 10:1, as they passed through the depths of the sea (on dry ground), not a drop of water fell on them, and they were protected by the cloud overhead, the cloud of fire. The passage through the sea represents a passage from out of the chains of sin and into the freedom of truth, Isa. 11:15-16. Actually all of Isa 11.

When in fellowship with God, we are protected by that wall of fire, surrounded by His cloud of glory, impenetrable, and untouchable by the jungle of this world. We certainly are living inside this world obviously, but that exposure to the various pressures and setbacks in life cannot harm our spiritual growth nor Gods protection of us.

God has a plan for each of our individual lives. Nothing in life can alter that plan, not the attitudes of mankind, not the powers of government, not the forces of nature. Nothing can prevent God from moving you to where He wants you to be in life. Even if you are somewhat negative, God can still place you where He wants you. The Israelites were afraid and somewhat whining, but they still crossed the sea. How much better if a person is in fellowship and advancing in their spiritual life.

The negative Israelites will be delivered but thy will die, ultimately in the desert, because of their negative attitude. Those who are positive will cross over into spiritual maturity (the promised land) and receive the fruits of the blessings there. The negative types will die free, but miserable and poor of soul. Their worldly wealth is irrelevant because they cannot take it with them in death.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
