Exodus 15:14-16

Lesson # Exodus 15:14-16
Study Material - Exodus 15:14-16

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Ex. 15:14-16

14 'The peoples have heard, they tremble; Anguish has gripped the inhabitants of Philistia. 15 'Then the chiefs of Edom were dismayed; The leaders of Moab, trembling grips them; All the inhabitants of Canaan have melted away. 16 'Terror and dread fall upon them; By the greatness of Thine arm they are motionless as stone; Until Thy people pass over, O LORD, Until the people pass over whom Thou hast purchased.

The Egyptians had long since been a powerful force to be reckoned with, and now in the space of one night, combined with the news of the many plagues that wrecked havoc in Egypt, the Egyptian 'un-defeatable' army was totally slaughtered by an otherwise unarmed force. This will have the effect of making all future enemies, fearful - the Edomites, Deut 2:4, the Moabites, Num 22:3, the Canaanites, Josh 2:9-10. All of Canaan, all of Philistia, those inhabitants that occupied the coast ranges that might have encountered the Israelites if they had taken the trade routes up and into Canaan.

Rumors travel fast. When something like this event where dead Egyptians, and Pharaoh's best no less, begin washing up on the shoreline, then those who are on the outside and looking on can have but only one of three reactions.

First they can be in awe of the power that achieved this victory and want to find out more and eventually convert to faith in that power. That is God of course. Second they can continue to be defiant and simply ignore the defeat of the Egyptians, and continue to fight against the Israelites, to their own demise of course. The Moabites even tried to get Balaam to curse the Israelites, but that did not work. That is an interesting story about Balaam riding his donkey, or an 'ass' riding his 'ass'. Trust me, there is a lot of humor in there. Or, three, they can continue to be negative, still sort of a defiant state, but filled with fear because their power is certainly not as great as that of Egypt, so what chance have they against this overwhelming power leading the Israelites.

I suppose there could be a fourth reaction of apathy, but when the rumors fly about a nation coming down the road and they are going to take over the land, and all that live there will die, then one generally does not just sit there. Fear, and concern tends to take hold of ones thoughts. And what is worse, the inhabitants of Canaan will have forty years to think about this. It will be capped with another miraculous crossing of the Jordan.

Fear began to take control of the enemies of Israel at the crossing over of the Red Sea. The first crossing over. More fear, to the point of tremendous melting away in anxiety will take over these enemies when they cross over the Jordan River The second crossing over.

There will be two more crossing's over. The Cross is the first, wherein Christ will win a strategic victory against Satan. Up until that time, Satan's objective was to prevent Christ from getting to the Cross, and thus purchasing all people out of the slave market of sin. Our exodus from Egypt followed by our faith expression in Christ represented by the crossing over of the Red Sea. The Israelites had to stand up and walk through the sea. We express our faith

This brought tremendous anxiety to Satan and his fallen angels. They have lost the first increment in the angelic conflict.

The second crossing is the second advent, the chaining of Satan and his imprisonment for a thousand years. Satan will be ejected out of heaven in the middle of the Tribulation. He will be frantic. This is Christ's tactical victory. Satan will fume for one thousand years and finally be executed into the lake of fire. Thus ending all of human history.

The enemies of God will run with fear. They may express contempt and ridicule laughingly from time to time, but in the end they will lose miserably.

The certainty of history is herein expressed for all to read. There is no other option. No escape for those who reject or ignore God and their responsibility to follow Him. If we find ourselves too busy, or if we make ridiculing comments regarding our refusal to believe these principles - 'I don't believe that!', then what have we to offer that is better? And there is nothing better obviously.

If we were formed (the physical portions of our bodies) in accordance with a pattern of perhaps the lowest form of prehistoric animal life, but then God added one more component to our make up and that is being made in His image (the soul and human life resident in that soul together with the right to think, make decisions, to self identify, etc.), together with being formed out of the dust of the earth. We are worthless to say the least, but unique in the universe. Then our blessings from God, and His attitude toward us, take on an even greater aspect than we perhaps had once thought.

History is certain. There is no alternative other than that plan which God decreed in eternity past. We can either go along with Gods plan, or we can reject it. We always have that choice. With overwhelming evidence bombarding us daily with regard to life and the truth of life, we have no excuse but to know that what the Bible teaches is true. So to continue to reject it, to scoff at it is the quintessence of stupidity.

And, when the day of your judgment arrives, fear will grab you as you realize that you are in over your head, that you have been the fool indeed, that God is storming down on you and you have no where to go, no one to turn to, and it probably will be too late for you to change (so long as you remain stubborn, bitter, defiant, etc., against God).

Did Moses and the people understand this? Yes. They celebrated their blessed situation and victory. Do you understand it? That is the most important question for you to answer to yourself, and then follow through with your life accordingly.
