Eze. 1:4

4 And I looked [ra'ah], and, behold, a whirlwind [ruwach] [ca`ar] came [bow] out of the north [tsaphown], a great [gadowl] cloud [anan], and a fire [esh] infolding [laqach] itself, and a brightness [nogahh] was about [cabiyb] it, and out of the midst [tavek] thereof as the colour [ayin] of amber [chashmal], out of the midst [tavek] of the fire [esh]. KJV-Interlinear

4 And as I looked, behold, a storm wind was coming from the north, a great cloud with fire flashing forth continually and a bright light around it, and in its midst something like glowing metal in the midst of the fire. NASB

From out of the north can come cursing or blessing. God is said symbolically, to live in the far north. No Virginia, God does not live at the North Pole nor at the North Star. This is figurative only.

Job 37:22
22 'Out of the north comes golden splendor; Around God is awesome majesty. NASB

Isa. 14:13
13 'But you said in your heart, 'I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the stars of God, And I will sit on the mount of assembly In the recesses of the north. NASB

Psa. 48:2-3
2 Beautiful in elevation, the joy of the whole earth, Is Mount Zion in the far north, The city of the great King. 3 God, in her palaces, Has made Himself known as a stronghold. NASB

From out of the north comes a great deal of Israel's troubles. And in the end times (the Tribulation) the invasions of Israel will start in the south with the impotent push of the King of the South, but that will be quickly replaced by an all out invasion by the King of the North, from the north.

Throughout history most of Israel's troubles have come from the north. That is, as of the days of Ezekiel. The country has already been invaded and overrun by the Chaldean Empire (the Babylonians).

From out of the north comes a great cloud filled with fire. The fires of molten glowing metals along with flashes of lightning and all of the sounds of thunder that accompany the lightning.

This is all signifying the power and awesome and terrifying threat of Gods judgment.

What Ezekiel is beginning to portray in this vision is, the awesome and terrifying judgments, the afflictions, the terror that is coming to Jerusalem for its failure in the spiritual realm.

This vision does not mean that the threat of an earthly enemy is coming from the northerly direction, but that the threat of judgment comes from God and from no one else. God may use enemies residing in any direction from Jerusalem, but regardless of the trouble that negative people encounter in life, it is always from the source of God. Jesus Christ controls history.

Jerusalem represents the city of peace. Peace represents that which is accomplished when a person advances to spiritual maturity. This is for believers only of course. When Jerusalem or peace is corrupt, then people who are pursuing their peace by other means (not through Bible study) are therefore pursuing it through the worlds systems of false wisdom and philosophy and such. They by default they will fall into a category of corruption and evil due to their indifference or rejection of God and doctrine.

Therefore, judgment is certain to come.

Not being a child's story. Not a story of fantasy or books of fiction or a movie script from Hollywood, complete with gremlins and mysterious clouds and such. But a very real story of life and truth and reality that will come crashing down all around your ears if you ignore your responsibilities in the spiritual realm, which God has placed on each one of us.

In the recent storm in Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama there were lots of folks who expressed their rage as to the treatment they received, lots of folks expressed their faith in God and their gratefulness of just being alive, and yet others expressed their attitude that the party town will rise up again and that the storm was nothing that they couldn't handle again and again.

The first and third groups learned nothing and will be in for yet another rude awakening probably later on in life. No storm comes only by chance. All come directly from God and all accomplish His purpose of the moment. No amount of rock or barriers of any height can prevent Gods judgment from accomplishing its intended purpose when it comes.

The history of Israel is filled with their historical record of disobedience and their repeated troubles as a result of their negative attitude toward God. This principle applies to all people throughout history.

The cloud of judgment prevents man from seeing the face of God. Negative man is not entitled to see the face of perfection. The cloud is in the heavens and man cannot prevent its advance. The whirlwind, the storm of judgment, is powerful and far beyond mans ability to stop it, or alter it, or change its path.

Every person in whose direction Gods judgment is headed, is totally helpless before it.

Two things come out of heaven from God - blessing and judgment. Which do you suppose would be the most preferred?

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
