Eze. 3:24-27

24 Then the spirit [ruwach] entered [bow] into me, and set [amad] me upon my feet [regel], and spake [dabar] with me, and said [amar] unto me, Go [bow], shut [cagar] thyself within [tavek] thine house [bayith].
25 But thou, O son [ben] of man [adam], behold, they shall put [nathan] bands [aboth] upon thee, and shall bind [acar] thee with them, and thou shalt not go out [yatsa] among [tavek] them:
26 And I will make thy tongue [lashown] cleave [dabaq] to the roof of thy mouth [chek], that thou shalt be dumb [alam], and shalt not be to them a reprover [iysh] [yakach]: for they are a rebellious [mariy] house [bayith].
27 But when I speak [dabar] with [eth] thee, I will open [pathach] thy mouth [peh], and thou shalt say [amar] unto them, Thus saith [amar] the Lord [Adonay] GOD [Yahovih]; He that heareth [shama], let him hear [shama]; and he that forbeareth [chadel], let him forbear [chadal]: for they are a rebellious [mariy] house [bayith]. KJV-Interlinear

24 The Spirit then entered me and made me stand on my feet, and He spoke with me and said to me, 'Go, shut yourself up in your house. 25 'As for you, son of man, they will put ropes on you and bind you with them, so that you cannot go out among them. 26 'Moreover, I will make your tongue stick to the roof of your mouth so that you will be dumb, and cannot be a man who rebukes them, for they are a rebellious house. 27 'But when I speak to you, I will open your mouth, and you will say to them, 'Thus says the Lord GOD.' He who hears, let him hear; and he who refuses, let him refuse; for they are a rebellious house. NASB

Arrogance and defiance toward God brings ropes and bindings that prevent a person from functioning in life. In contrast, it is the Spirit (the Holy Spirit) who provides the power to stand a person up on their feet that they might function as they were intended.

God stands Ezekiel up once again and continues His instructions.

Ezekiel is told to go to his home, and shut himself up inside. The people will tie him up while inside his home, preventing him from going outside of his home, and from leaving his home. He will in effect become a prisoner inside of his home. Now these instructions are figurative, so that you don't get the idea that Ezekiel is really being tied up.

In chapter 4 and following he is going to be laying on his side without turning, for a very long time (390 days). He obviously has to eat and sleep and go to the bathroom and such. But God is setting up the stage to demonstrate the defiance, the rebelliousness, the negative attitude which the people of Israel have had against God for a very long time. For nearly 390 years thus far.

This is why they (the Israelites) are in the predicament that they find themselves in (captivity), and why in the very near future, Jerusalem (which has not yet fallen), will soon fall to the Chaldean army, and its occupants will soon join those who are already in captivity. That is, those who live through the siege.

By the way, most people can't sleep through one night without turning, so not turning for 390 days will place an enormous stress on Ezekiel. Being defiant toward God is takes much more effort, than being positive toward Him.

Ezekiel is closing himself up in his own house. That is going to become a representation of the Israelites being closed up inside the city of Jerusalem as a result of the siege by the Chaldean army.

His being bound up, while inside the house, is a further representation of the entrapment of the citizens in the city under siege. They will have all of their freedoms cut off. Their comings and goings will cease. They will be trapped (bound) with the further representation of their helplessness. There is no one to come to their rescue. No one to help them. They are inside their home (Jerusalem), and even the neighbors (neighboring towns) cannot help them. By the way, most of those neighboring towns have already fallen and are not even available to help anyway.

Ezekiel's tongue is stuck to the top of his mouth. Again figurative. He cannot speak doctrine. Why?

Because the people are indifferent, defiant, rebellious. They don't want to hear from God. So God doesn't speak to them.

Only when God commands Ezekiel to say something, then is his tongue released, so to speak, that he can speak, and only then is he to speak exactly what God wants said, 'Thus says the Lord.'

There is no room for complaint. No room for criticism. No room for correction that is to come from human opinion. Only Gods opinion is in view. Only Gods opinion is important.

To those who are positive toward God and actively pursuing their spiritual lives, Gods word is freely and abundantly available. God holds nothing back. God defines how you pursue your spiritual life, not you.

To those who are not actively pursuing their spiritual lives (by Gods definition), then Gods word is withheld, and only that which God intends for them to have, is given. That means also that the discipline given is going to be the bulk of their communication - lamentation, mourning, ad woe.

Some people have to learn the hard way.

With respect to their spiritual lives, they are indifferent, stubborn, defiant, compromising, procrastinators. They have their own 'better' ideas of how life is to work, or of how they 'want' life to work 'for them.' God is just in their way. So with great effort, they trap themselves in the jungle in which they chose (or keep on choosing) to live.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
