Eze. 5:14-15

14 Moreover I will make [nathan] thee waste [chorbah], and a reproach [cherpah] among the nations [gowy] that are round about [cabiyb] thee, in the sight [ayin] of all that pass by [abar].
15 So it shall be a reproach [cherpah] and a taunt [gaduwphah], an instruction [muwcar] and an astonishment [mashammah] unto the nations [gowy] that are round about [cabiyb] thee, when I shall execute [asah] judgments [shephet] in thee in anger [aph] and in fury [chemah] and in furious [chemah] rebukes [towkechah]. I the LORD [Yahovah] have spoken [dabar] it. KJV-Interlinear

14 'Moreover, I will make you a desolation and a reproach among the nations which surround you, in the sight of all who pass by. 15 'So it will be a reproach, a reviling, a warning and an object of horror to the nations who surround you, when I execute judgments against you in anger, wrath, and raging rebukes. I, the LORD, have spoken. NASB

Jerusalem, its people, all who profess to be the people of God (in our day that would be a reference to Christians), these then will become a reproach of other people, other nations, their disapproval, their criticism, a disgrace among mankind, a disappointment to all who looked up to them (failing believers) as something of a greater stature.

While the state of man is not the issue, because we all have our flaws, many people who themselves are not anything to write home about, will look at believers who fall on their face, and see them as a disappointment, a disgrace, hypocrites, Bible thumpers who boast God while they themselves cross the line of human dignity.

Such is the state of Jerusalem. These people inherited a great tradition in their possession of the scriptures, but they themselves rejected the scriptures. They boasted them, but refused to practice them.

We all have access to this great tradition, but how many among us pursue Gods wisdom and stick to it?

Thus Jerusalem will become a reproach and an example.

The people round about will look and gawk, they will ridicule, and shack their heads in disgust. The people round about will look to Jerusalem and judge them themselves. 'Aha!' Will be their response in self righteousness, as Jerusalem disintegrates under the judgment of God.

But note, not all of Jerusalem will be under judgment. A few, though not to many, will be a delivered remnant. So not all judging of others will be accurate. And judging of others is never warranted anyway, because no one knows why trouble befalls any particular individual. God can bring trouble in order to test faith and advance an individual into an even greater spiritual life.

When judgment dose strike Jerusalem, then those round about will be in shock at the horror of their disaster. We have seen major disasters in just the past year or so. The tsunami, the hurricane, the earthquake saw lots of destruction and in a couple of those, lots of deaths. Although we see these things on the television and so have an antiseptic view of the disaster, but if you walked through the disaster and saw first hand, and smelled, and touched the disaster, then your attitude would change dramatically into shock.

Jerusalem will see the bulk of its population die horribly. Some will escape. Later in Ezekiel, he will describe to those who would listen, just how to make their escape. But the bulk of the people will not listen and they will stick it out to the bitter end, in a dying city, and they will die.

Lam. 1:12
2 'Is it nothing to all you who pass this way? Look and see if there is any pain like my pain Which was severely dealt out to me, Which the LORD inflicted on the day of His fierce anger.' NASB

Though the passers by will taunt, they should realize (but they won't), that the city and its predicament is also a lesson to all who would turn their backs on God.

The destruction of Jerusalem will be an instruction, a lesson, for all to learn, that if you turn your back on God, then one day He will turn His back on you.

Does God prevent you from having some other 'better' life? No.

He warns, that turning against Him, He who holds all things together in life, He who controls history, He who makes all provision in life, then that turning will result in the cessation of your support from Him. There is no other source for support in life. Man cannot support himself as many wrongly believe. Man receives all of his support, from the beating of his own heart, to the daily livelihood, to all the little things that we have and take for granted, from God, and from no other source.

Man depends on God for life, and the after life. We were not placed on this earth to discover perpetual life through medicines or vitamins. Those things simply improve our quality of life in our current day. Death will overcome us all eventually, and then what?

Ezekiel is a book of many visions. Visions from which we can learn doctrine and the certainties of life. These are not fairy tales, but lessons of the harsh realities in life, to those who are negative, together with the wonderful blessings that are available to those who get with a consistent study program for their life.

It is far better to see disaster from afar, rather than being caught up in the middle of it. There is no reason why disaster (for discipline, for judgment) should overcome any of us, if we simply pursue our spiritual lives as a part of our daily priorities.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
