Eze. 5:16-17

16 When I shall send [shalach] upon them the evil [ra] arrows [chets] of famine [ra`ab], which shall be for their destruction [mashchiyth], and which I will send [shalach] to destroy [shachath] you: and I will increase [yacaph] the famine [ra`ab] upon you, and will break [shabar] your staff [matteh] of bread [lechem]:
17 So will I send [shalach] upon you famine [ra`ab] and evil [ra] beasts [chay], and they shall bereave [shakol] thee; and pestilence [deber] and blood [dam] shall pass through [abar] thee; and I will bring [bow] the sword [chereb] upon thee. I the LORD [Yahovah] have spoken [dabar] it. KJV-Interlinear

16 'When I send against them the deadly arrows of famine which were for the destruction of those whom I shall send to destroy you, then I shall also intensify the famine upon you, and break the staff of bread. 17 'Moreover, I will send on you famine and wild beasts, and they will bereave you of children; plague and bloodshed also will pass through you, and I will bring the sword on you. I, the LORD, have spoken.'' NASB

Gods judgment will last until His justice is fulfilled. Jerusalem will be judged because of her sin. Jerusalem will be humiliated before all of her neighbors. Jerusalem will suffer all manner of disaster including starvation, wild beasts, and plagues. And to make matters worse, her enemy will bring against her the sword and fire, and many will die by means of violence.

During the disasters in this past year, sharks were mentioned in the news as being a problem for many who were washed out to sea in the tsunami. In New Orleans, poisonous snakes, alligators, and mosquitos were common threats mentioned in the news. I haven't heard of any of these problems in the Pakistan earthquake, but one would assume that whatever the wild beasts in that area are (lions, wolves, or whatever), that they would be a problem. I did hear on the news today that the cold and snow of winter was setting in and that was going to be the big hindrance and killer in northern Pakistan.

As for plagues, then diseases are common problems when there is an abundance of dead bodies. Mosquitos and flies carry all of the bad bugs that breed malaria, and cholera, not to mention the dysentery and other health problems which accompany bad food and bad water.

In a modern society like we have here in the USA, these problems can be handled in a relatively quick time, We are just used to instant help, and instant everything in our lives today. But, over in Pakistan it has been a week and many places haven't yet seen help, and some hard hit places won't even be discovered for a while yet.

In all of our modern day disasters, there is help on the way from all over the world, in any given disaster. But, back in Ezekiel's day, help was not going to be on the way for Jerusalem. That city was going to be so obliterated by famine and disease, that the wild dogs and vultures would have a feast for quite a while.

Then when things seemed at their worst, life was going to get much, much worse, as the enemy would soon breach the walls and begin their sword handiwork and female ravaging against an otherwise helpless population.

In chapter six, Ezekiel will reveal the complaint against Jerusalem's idolatry. In chapter seven, the nature of the judgment against Jerusalem will be depicted.

This is all meant to educate the reader and warn of the repercussions of rejecting God. Not that any of us will get caught up in the siege of a city, but we all have seen in the news, the many threats that can occur against any of us at anytime in our lives. Even this bird flu now being mentioned, can be a potentially bad disaster. You can get the flu and in a few days be dead. Aspirin or nighttime cold medicine won't help in this one.

Your pattern of life will determine the results of your life. Keep with a steady Bible study and you will be fine regardless of what happens in the world. Let your studies slide, procrastinate and don't take any of this seriously, and you will discover yourself being caught up in something that you will regret dearly.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
