Genesis 3:7-8

Lesson # Genesis 3:7-8
Study Material - Genesis 3:7-8

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Gen. 3:7-8

7 Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together and made themselves loin coverings. 8 And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the LORD God among the trees of the garden.

Their eyes of understanding suddenly were opened. They had both been foolish. The woman was deceived into thinking that she would be advanced in her status. The man simply chased after the woman over the cliff into destruction.

They were both immediately seized with guilt. Where before they were clothed with Gods grace, now they were stripped naked spiritually. Their human spirits both immediately destroyed, they were both immediately out of fellowship with God. They both had lost, not gained. They had lost the provisions and blessings they enjoyed in the Garden. Now their own souls were at war within the very members of their bodies. Both sin and evil would compete for their attentions against the spiritual side of their being. The spiritual side being for the moment held in check.

Sin is now introduced into human history. First it is a dishonor. It causes mischief wherever it is admitted. It sets people against each other. It upsets the peace and comforts of life and instills disorder and discontent. It ends in shame in two respects. Shame in the repentance and turning to God, or shame in continued rejection of the truth and eventual judgment. Second, Satan deceived with the truth, but lied about the consequences. Their eyes were indeed opened, but they were not elevated to Gods level, but demoted to positions of dishonor and disorientation. The most malicious mischievous liars often excuse themselves in their pranks not caring about those they might injure

Sin was introduced into human history by Satan. He is the father of sin. But man decided of his own volition, to sin, having full knowledge, and no excuse for not knowing the consequences. Whether they knew what they were doing or not, the desire to sin was there and the action followed. Both Adam and Eve had every opportunity to discover Satan and the plot, but they chose to disregard that aspect of reality which was right in the Garden with them.

Job 31:33, Adam launched his plan to cover his sins. Human good and human effort always try to whitewash and cover up the ugly. They sewed fig leaves and tried to hide the truth, but the truth was in their soul, not on their outer bodies. In sin man is confused. He tries to reconcile with himself rather than God. He tries to correct the wrong things, clothes on the body, rather than correcting the right thing, doctrine in the soul. In sin man is lost and is unable to come to the correct conclusion. Everything man does is useless, because the application of his efforts is useless and wrong. Having fallen from a level of fellowship with God, man cannot bring himself back to that same level. Only God can accomplish that on man's behalf.

Prior to the sin God provided for everything. After the sin, man has to provide for himself, and is at a loss as to what to do next, so he starts making irrational plans.

They heard the sound of God walking in the Garden. Normally they would see God walking. But now they are hiding, separated from God, and only hear God. Not knowing where his exact location is, but unable to come out and converse with him. Prevented by their own guilty thoughts. Man establishes his own barrier in his soul. The biggest enemy man has is generally himself. If you say it can't be done, then you probably can't. But if you say, it can be done, then you have established an open mind and have eliminated yourself as a barrier in accomplishing things in your life. But sin is a different animal. We have a barrier in our life with respect to reestablishing a relationship with God. If we feel sorry for our self, if we blame God, if we don't care, then we have put up ourselves as that barrier preventing us from finding God. But if we want to know God, if we accept responsibility for our own actions, if we seek God, then we have made it past the first barrier, our volition, and we will succeed, because God will do the rest in getting us the information for reestablishing fellowship with him.

God came walking in the Garden, as he had everyday prior to the sin. This was the normal routine, in the cool of the day. God did not change is habit. He did not come up on them suddenly. He did not surprise them. He did not come flying down with flaming sword. But he came in as He always had. God is faithful and consistent. They knew who it was because they had heard the footsteps before. Now in their guilt, they hid themselves. They were unable to face God in their changed condition.

Psa. 139:7, and Jer. 23:24, where can we run? Where can we hide from God? God sees all, and our vain attempts to hide from Him, or our attempts to fool God, accomplish nothing.

Adam and Eve first tried to get smarter by listening to Satan. That failed. They tried to correct things, or cover up with fig leaves. That failed. They tried to hide. That failed. There was nothing they could do to correct their error. There is nothing man can do of his own invention that will gain him back into the court and presence of God. At this moment all they can do is be aware of Gods existence They cannot even initiate communication with God. Their problem is in their souls, not on their bodies. The solution is from the information only God can provide, Bible doctrine, and not from the fruit of their labors, or imaginations.

All truth comes from heaven. All solutions come from heaven. Though they are now fallen, they are still benefiting from God's grace and provision. They are hiding in the trees of the garden. God provided the trees, as He provided the Garden. But they are soon going to lose their home. The Garden represents living in the prosperity and provision of God. This they have rejected. Eve rejected it through ignorance, and Adam through cognizance. But rejection is rejection and the outcome is the same, loss of position.

The cause of mans failure was Satan. The means of mans failure was mans volition. The result of the failure is death. The solution to this predicament comes from God alone.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
