Genesis 4:8

Lesson # Genesis 4:8
Study Material - Genesis 4:8

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Gen. 4:8

8 And Cain told Abel his brother. And it came about when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother and killed him.

So now we have the ultimate contrasts between those who are saved and destined for heaven, and those who are not saved and are destined for hell. Gal. 4:29, compares those born of the flesh to those born of the spirit. Note that these births do not come from the womb, but from the volition of the individual. Cain chose against God and Abel chose for God.

Matt. 23:35, is the way of Abel, the path of righteousness, the path of faith in God and in the savior. His sacrifice, which speaks of the sacrifice of Christ on the Cross is his testimony of compliance with Gods plan. Cain on the other hand is distinguished in Jude 11, the way of unrighteousness, of rejection of Gods plan.

Note that all sin originates from arrogance, or the attitude that one doesn't need God nor any information God provides. The arrogant seem to think they can chart their own course in life. They reject the knowledge that doctrine offers and disregard the deficiencies of sin and the limited knowledge of this world. The arrogant person ignores the barriers that they place before them self. Thus when they degenerate in their soul because of the unhealthy nature of their soul due to lack of Gods knowledge, then they see nothing wrong with their actions.

Cain degenerated from simple arrogance to anger to jealousy to bitterness to murder. Cain argued with his brother. They had a discussion. We already know which stand each took. Cain against God and Abel for God. Cain could not accept this and rose up against Abel. The evil persons who cannot have their way will stop at nothing to destroy those whom they see as favored.

Though the sins thus far and prior to the action of murder, seem very harmless. Adam ate some fruit. Cain offered the fruit of his work. What could possibly be wrong with those harmless actions? And the key is in the soul and the resources that support the health of the soul. There are a lot of 'good' people in this world, and they see nothing wrong with their chosen way of life. We too most often can see nothing wrong with the way people live, but all we can see is on the outside, their clothing, their vehicle, their home, their appearance, what they say and so forth. We cannot see into the structure of their soul, unless you have a lot of discernment and are patience.

Psa. 50:20, Cain should have loved his brother. He should have protected his younger brother, the son of his parents, but his attitude was not where it should have been. He was antagonistic, and selfish, desiring his own way at the expense of everyone else, rather than recognizing his error and changing his ways.

Matt. 5:21-22, when you have had negative thoughts, then you have already crossed the line as far as God is concerned. Hatred is tantamount to murder. The thought if not put in check will lead to the overt action. Just as the thoughts of lust equate to adultery, so hatred is the same as murder. Bible doctrine is the only resource that can fend off the negative thoughts of the sin nature. The soul that lacks doctrine will eventually degenerate into evil morals, favoritism, unfair systems of justice, bias, prejudice, and the list goes on. The world absent doctrine will degenerate into disaster, as we have seen in the Revelation study for the time frame following the rapture. But that is not the only time in history when evil has ruled and tyranny was the result. There are many instances of genocide, witch burning, rampant prejudice and so forth. Some of them are happening in our current day.

Cain used deceit to do his deed of murder. Abner was kissed by Joab before Joab killed him. Absalom, feasted with Amnon before he killed him. 1 John 3:12, Cain killed Abel because Cain's deeds were evil. The work of his own labor was the issue. God rejected him, and so did Abel. Abel did not give him any comfort in his disregard of Gods plan, thus Cain could find no one else that would take his side. What would the discussion with Abel do anyway. Did Cain think that he could convince Abel to go to God and change Gods mind? Didn't happen. Evil people are always looking elsewhere for justification of their chosen ways. They have only to look to God and get the truth, but they do not want to accept the truth. They want to accept their own desires and are ruled by their sin natures, which misleads people.

Abel becomes the first to die. So God claims the first fruits of the dead, the first to go into heaven and waits for the resurrection. Abel was the first to gain access to heaven and the first to see martyrdom for the sake of God. Though God has promised the seed of the woman through the chain of faith. Abel was not the only believer, or last believer, others will follow. Satan had his task of stopping the chain of human generations until the birth of Christ, which was some 4000 years away. But despite this lengthy time period, and the many events of history which would occur during that time, Gods plan would prevail.

The power of God is infinitely greater than the power of evil. Trusting in God reaps blessings and rewards. Trusting in the human ability reaps misery and doom.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
