Genesis 6:3-4

Lesson # Genesis 6:3-4
Study Material - Genesis 6:3-4

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Gen. 6:3-4

3 Then the LORD said, 'My Spirit shall not strive with man forever, because he also is flesh; nevertheless his days shall be one hundred and twenty years.' 4 The Nephilim were on the earth in those days, and also afterward, when the sons of God came in to the daughters of men, and they bore children to them. Those were the mighty men who were of old, men of renown.

Evil was rampant on the earth. But God was patient as He always is with every living person. But judgment was set for the world. Any who would turn to God would be saved, and those who rejected God would die in the flood to come.

Nephilim was the production of part man part angel in the sinful engagement of the marriages by those angels and human women. So extensive was it that the human race was becoming diluted into a human / angel combination. The judgment of God would place those angels who were disobedient into Tartarus. 2 Pet. 2:4 and 1 Pet. 3:19 indicate that this was not a confused issue for the Jews in those days.

Man was off limits yet angels went against Gods wishes and engaged I sex with humans anyway. This produced the mighty man that exist in Greek mythology. Humans with unusual strengths or abilities. Certainly these stories were passed down by Noah and his sons. Probably distorted and exaggerated over time but the tales certainly survived to Moses' day.

God has a policy of righteousness and justice. The world had gone sour and now a specific date is given for the judgment of the population. One hundred and twenty years was the time frame and all knew of it. Noah would build his ark and probably become the laughing stock and target of every ones jokes. But nevertheless God made it very clear that the world was going to be flooded and anyone who could not swim for the better part of a year was not going to survive apart from the ark.

The ark was Gods plan. Any who accepted Gods plan would board the ark. Any who rejected Gods plan would ignore the ark. Just as salvation and spiritual growth comes only in accordance with Gods plan and in accordance with His method, so also the ark became the demonstration of Gods way or no way. This is not a restriction on mans right to choose. God does everything for our best interest. But choosing against God means you are trying to determine your own future with virtually no control over the events in this world. And we as mankind have no control over our futures. We can't control the weather, we can't control the stock market, we can't foresee good or bad business. We can only perceive that which is occurring now and even then we have no knowledge of the facts of cause and effect over virtually anything in our lives. Rejection of God is sailing in the darkness of pitch black. This is a very good reason to choose for God and grow up spiritually, and then allow God to run our lives, because He has all the facts and will steer us in the right directions.

So here we have a massive defection of humanity away from God. As the people began to die off, the world was left with these mixed angel/human creatures. This went on for quite some time and God allowed it to prove and to see if any would choose for God, but none did. Only Noah and his wife and his three sons and their wives chose for God. Anyone else who chose for God were removed from the earth prior to the flood in accordance to Gods mercies. Thus Methuselah died just prior to the flood. And Noah would not have his wisdom to rely on during the course of the flood and afterwards. Reliance on God is mandated. Not on the things of this world or other people, but on doctrine in the soul.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
