Genesis 14:19-20

Lesson # Genesis 14:19-20
Study Material - Genesis 14:19-20

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Gen. 14:19-20

19 And he blessed him and said, 'Blessed be Abram of God Most High, Possessor of heaven and earth; 20 And blessed be God Most High, Who has delivered your enemies into your hand.' And he gave him a tenth of all.

Melchizedek did not bless Abram, but stated that the blessing to Abram comes from God Most High. God Most High, is Jesus Christ. God the Father is the ultimate authority. The Son of God, Jesus Christ subordinates himself to the Father in compliance and acceptance with the plan of God. Now we know that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are all co-equal in the Godhead. The organization structure helps us to orient to authority and reality. Most High is the ultimate authority of God.

Possessor of the heavens and earth refers to Gods dominion over everything under creation. The Father set forth the plan, and the Son executed it. Jesus Christ was seated at the right hand of the Father and given everything as an inheritance. Therefore Christ is the ultimate authority over all of creation, in the universe in general, and specifically on this earth because there is no life anywhere else in this universe.

Christ did not have a plan for us in this galaxy and another plan for someone else in another galaxy. Christ went to the Cross once for all. He did not go to the cross several times either for us nor for anyone else.

All blessings originate from God and God alone. The sum total of our accomplishments go to the credit of God not us. Because He is the source of all our accomplishments in the first place. He delivered Abram's enemies. Abram did not accomplish the victory on his own. His men did not collectively gain the victory on their own.

Abram was the tenth generation after the flood from Noah. We are not quite 400 years after the flood. No written cannon of scripture. No King James version, no Living Bible version, no book store, no internet. Yet knowledge of God is available and clear and understood by those who were interested in Abram's time. Knowledge of God did not suddenly begin when Christ went to the Cross, nor when the last book was written, nor when the first Bibles came off the early printing presses, nor when archeology discovered old documents in caves, nor when Armstrong stepped on to the moon.

Bible doctrine has been available to all generations ever since Adam and Eve walked in the Garden with Jesus Christ. The principles of salvation have been understood by every generation since Adam. With the clothes of skins, animal skins, taken by sacrifice, to the bread and wine of Melchizedek's offering and blessing of thanks to God.

Melchizedek was a representation of the title and authority that Jesus Christ would receive after the Cross, historically, but actually possessed since eternity past and has always possessed. The certainty of the eventual results of human history make God the ultimate authority and master of all. God does not learn anything new from history, but history is a courtesy to every living creature to demonstrate Gods vast wisdom, knowledge, and authority. We can only witness the unfolding of history as it takes place, but God has known it all along. For God, there are no surprises, no tricks up the sleeves of creatures. Only man or angels make themselves fools when they think they can outwit God.

And Abram gave 10% to Melchizedek. Ugh. Money. The first thing in the minds of people when they look at their empty pocket books, or when they look at the investments they 'wished' they could fund. But where did that money originate from? Your hard work? Your special talent? No! God was the source of all that you have. And the principle of this return to the origin is a lesson in humility and trust. There is no negotiation with God. But the attitude of soul is the issue. And before we go any further, I do not request nor do I expect any monetary contributions to me for this Bible study. Now focus on the principle of the lesson of giving to the church. From all that you have, you received from God. God owns the universe. He does not need your penny's, even if they numbered in the trillions of dollars, they would be mere penny's to God. So why give money back to God? To teach and train you in doctrine and humility and appreciation and trust and faith. You are giving nothing up when you give to your local church, or Bible organization, or whomever you wish to promote the teaching of Gods Word. Giving should not come from the expectation of receiving more, nor from the expectation of receiving credit for 'your' generosity.

Giving should come from the genuine desire to help others in finding or having the opportunity to find spiritual growth for themselves. In Bible study there are no losers, only winners. If all the world were to be positive toward God and were to advance to spiritual maturity then this world would be so prosperous it would blow your mind, but of course, this is not the case. People place little bumper stickers on their cars that say 'Imagine a world of love and no war'. Love as we know by now is an emotion. And emotion is a response or a reaction to the intellect of the soul, or it should be. Sometimes people think before acting and they get things right. Others act without thinking, they are emotional and out of control, and they get things all screwed up. Anyway, we are stuck with these sin natures and negative attitudes of many people towards Bible doctrine. We cannot legislate their thinking patterns, nor coerce their thinking trends into some preset standard.

Only Bible doctrine provides a consistent standard for life, and it is optional for us all, never forced. Giving is optional as well. But the spiritual believer, the one who is advancing to maturity, gives from the soul, from the source of Bible doctrine in himself, from the confidence that God provided the gift and God will always provide. To give is an application of spiritual charity to ones life, therefore builds up ones character and divine possessions in the soul - gold, silver, and precious stones, the valuable things that decorate your inner self. The negative person looks at giving as a burden on their life. They are selfish and self centered. The positive believer looks at charity as an opportunity to help others as well as advance themselves in their spiritual lives.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
