Habakkuk 2:1

Lesson # Habakkuk 2:1
Study Material - Habakkuk 2:1

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Habakkuk 2:1

1 I will stand [amad] upon my watch [mishmereth] , and set [yatsab] me upon the tower [matsowr] , and will watch [tsaphah] to see [ra'ah] what he will say [dabar] unto me, and what I shall answer [shuwb] when I am reproved [towkechah] . KJV-Interlinear

1 I will stand on my guard post And station myself on the rampart; And I will keep watch to see what He will speak to me, And how I may reply when I am reproved. NASB

When life swirls all around us and we don't have an immediate answer as to why things are the way they are, then we have two possible avenues to turn to. We can turn to the opinion of the world, or we can turn to the opinion of the Word of God.

Now, in the world, we try to seek out an immediate answer. We live in a fast food age. We want answers, and we want them right now, or at least, we want them sooner than later. Trouble is like a pain. It hurts, and if we want the pain to go away, then we simply take a pill, or go to the doctor, or go to mother's house, or whatever it is you do.

Sometimes we seek out the advice, or just conversation with friends. Sometimes we go to an authority, which we recognize, and purchase advice (lawyer, doctor, astrologer, or whatever). Sometimes we just ignore the problem, and hope that it will go away.

But, unfortunately most of us do not go to God and seek His counsel. And the reason for that is probably because we cannot find instant answers within the Bible. We cannot simply turn to a verse and get our answer. There are no hidden codes, no secret passages, no mysterious maps or guides. Although there are lots of outfits who are trying to market the 'mysterious' and the 'hidden' side of the Bible. And there are those who try to market some sort of special code of ethics, or promise guarantees, or similar things of that nature. And they are all just gimmicks, shortcuts, fast tracks to success, or independence or happiness, or whatever it is you are pursuing. And these, 'get there quick,' gimmicks will never get you what you seek.

The only way to wisdom, is through a daily plugging away at Bible study. Daily study is not a social attention thing. It is not something dynamic in life. It is not a catchy gimmick. It is a daily habit of perseverance in study, of positive attitude, of open mindedness, and foremost, of patience.

That is our first verse in this chapter.

Habakkuk will stand guard (alertness in fellowship). He will remain on the rampart (active preparation in daily study). He will look out from the tower with a genuine focus and desire to see what more there is that he can discover and learn. And he will wait. He will wait for God to return an answer to his questions.

The spiritual life is not a get rich quick scheme. It is not a get happiness quick recipe. God is not a genie to whom we can submit our wish and expect instant answers.

But in humility Habakkuk looks, listens, and waits for the only wise counsel that exists in this universe. He who ignores Bible doctrine will never learn it. Never learning Gods Word, means that you will never have the correct answers to your questions.

The spiritual life is preparation for life, throughout life. Just as maturity is not a function of age (you are not automatically mature when you turn twenty-one years old), but maturity is an ongoing process of learning, of application of what you learn to life, of making mistakes, and of doing it all over again, and again.

Psa. 77:6
6 I will remember my song in the night; I will meditate with my heart; And my spirit ponders. NASB

Psa. 73:17
17 Until I came into the sanctuary of God; Then I perceived their end. NASB

Psa. 5:3
3 In the morning, O LORD, Thou wilt hear my voice; In the morning I will order my prayer to Thee and eagerly watch. NASB

Psa. 85:8
8 I will hear what God the LORD will say; NASB

Isa. 21:6-8
6 For thus the Lord says to me, 'Go, station the lookout, let him report what he sees. 7 'When he sees riders, horsemen in pairs, A train of donkeys, a train of camels, Let him pay close attention, very close attention.' 8 Then the lookout called, 'O Lord, I stand continually by day on the watchtower, And I am stationed every night at my guard post. NASB

The prophet's standing upon his tower, or high place, intimates his prudence, in making use of the helps and means he had within his reach (the scriptures) to know the mind of God.

The wise student will begin and maintain a daily study of Gods Word. Wisdom does not come instantly, but develops over the length of ones life. When you think you know all there is, then God reveals something which should convince you, that you haven't even scratched the surface of wisdom.

Take the shortcuts, and the frustrations of life will fall all over you. Take the long road of a lifetime of Bible study, and you will one day begin to see the astonishment, and wonder, and awe of Gods plan, mentioned earlier in verse 5 of the previous chapter.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
