Habakkuk 2:6-8

Lesson # Habakkuk 2:6-8
Study Material - Habakkuk 2:6-8

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Habakkuk 2:6-8

6 Shall not all these take up [nasa] a parable [mashal] against him, and a taunting [maliytsah] proverb [chiydah] against him, and say [amar] , Woe [howy] to him that increaseth [rabah] that which is not his! how long? and to him that ladeth [kabad] himself with thick clay [abtiyt] !
7 Shall they not rise up [quwm] suddenly [petha] that shall bite [nashak] thee, and awake [yaqats] that shall vex [zuwa] thee, and thou shalt be for booties [machiccah] unto them?
8 Because thou hast spoiled [shalal] many [rab] nations [gowy] , all the remnant [yether] of the people [am] shall spoil [shalal] thee; because of men's [adam] blood [dam] , and for the violence [chamac] of the land [erets] , of the city [qiryah] , and of all that dwell [yashab] therein. KJV-Interlinear

6 'Will not all of these take up a taunt-song against Him, Even mockery and insinuations against Him, And say, 'Woe to him who increases what is not his — For how long — And makes himself rich with loans?' 7 'Will not your creditors rise up suddenly, And those who collect from you awaken? Indeed, you will become plunder for them. 8 'Because you have looted many nations, All the remainder of the peoples will loot you — Because of human bloodshed and violence done to the land, To the town and all its inhabitants. NASB

The first of five woes begins in this passage. The woes are against all peoples throughout history who disregard the truth of God and pursue the lusts of their eye, the lusts of their flesh, and the pride of life in general. This includes everyone who lives their life out of fellowship with God. That means that most of the world fits into this category.

All peoples who do not believe in Christ are in this category. The nation of Judah who is the subject of this passage is a nation which has turned its back on God. The Chaldeans, who will form the Babylonian empire will fit in this category, and all empires that rise and fall in history, who reject God, will see the truth of this prophecy come true against them.

Likewise, any individual (believer or unbeliever) who ignores God in their life, opens himself up to these woes, and their future is not a pretty one.

Anyone can avoid this destiny easily, simply by being obedient to God. Interesting though, how people pursue freedom and prosperity and independence in a manner apart from Gods counsel, and they find themselves slaves to the most ruthless life that can possibly exist. And in contrast, anyone who submits themselves to slavery to God, by merely subordinating themselves to the principles in the Bible, are in fact freeing themselves from the slavery of the world, and gaining maximum independence for themselves.

The sin nature is really an entangling snare, a trap, which, when anyone who falls into it, then getting out is extremely difficult if not impossible when they rely on their own energy. Only with Bible doctrine in the soul, can escape be accomplished.

The people of Judah have taken up against God. Rather than following a life of truth and honesty, they pursue sin, which is any life outside of fellowship. The are disgraced, dishonored.

All these take up a parable against Him? All what? Against whom?

Here the tools are those things which manufacture wickedness. Tools which are sin, greed, lust, compromise, indifference, and so forth. All these will take up a taunting song, or a parable with a double meaning, a riddle, an enigma, a dark or obscure saying, against the very people who use them.

They will sing against those (negative people) who take them up. Any person who incorporates them into their life. The people of Judah have turned against God, and they have degenerated over time, to violence against reach other. They gossip against each other. They promote self at the expense of others. They rob, and steal, lie and take advantage. They ridicule, and tease, and mislead, and pretend, in pursuit of their own selfish desires. In pursuit of their own self defined goals.

They choose to live in the jungle, and they try to establish their own rules in the jungle, but the jungle reality is really a composite of all the rules which people bring to it.

And the very tools that people use, will turn against them according to the jungle law of retaliation, or poetic justice, and that will seal their doom. They in effect, manufacture the very means of their own self destruction.

The first woe concerns those who take that which they are not entitled to. Those who steal. Those who lie and cheat in life. Those who take advantage in order to gain an upper hand. Those who gain through illegitimate or dishonest means. Those who deceive. Those who use ambiguity and debaters double talk to advance themselves. All these and more, which are used to gain something which one is not entitled to. That is the first woe.

They make themselves rich with loans. These loans or instruments of debt, refer to the advantage taking against others, but they also refer to the debt which is piling up on ones self. That debt is sin. Also, referred to as heavy clay. A boat which takes on too much heavy cargo will sink under its weight.

The ship of ones life is the soul. When the soul takes on so much weight of sin and the production of the sin nature, then like the scar tissue which we discussed the other day, that person will sink from life under the vast weight of their unhealthy soul.

The instruments of evil, will rise up and collect from the perpetrator, so that anyone who pursues a pattern of life which excludes God, will sooner or later become the victim themselves.

A rejection of God is in effect a rejection of life. Evil people turn against life and all that God has defined. They attack people. They attack collections of people, called cities. They attack nations. All three are the basic building blocks of a stable society. Volition, social stability, and national integrity.

The first woe, or warning, is now on the table.

Jer. 8:17
17 'For behold, I am sending serpents against you, Adders, for which there is no charm, And they will bite you,' declares the LORD. NASB

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
