Habakkuk 3:8

Lesson # Habakkuk 3:8
Study Material - Habakkuk 3:8

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Habakkuk 3:8

8 Was the LORD [Yahovah] displeased [charah] against the rivers [nahar] ? was thine anger [aph] against the rivers [nahar] ? was thy wrath [ebrah] against the sea [yam] , that thou didst ride [rakab] upon thine horses [cuwc] and thy chariots [merkabah] of salvation [yashuw`ah] ? KJV-Interlinear

8 Did the LORD rage against the rivers, Or was Thine anger against the rivers, Or was Thy wrath against the sea, That Thou didst ride on Thy horses, On Thy chariots of salvation? NASB

As we are all having our Christmas dinner, half way around he world an earthquake is in the making. There is no rest for those who ignore God. There is no rest for those who pursue their spiritual life. There is no rest for anyone. When suddenly we see the awesome destruction of an earthquake and the giant tidal waves it can produce. And that is simply nature at work.

Habakkuk changes direction in his prayer and asks three question. Why did God present Himself so? As He did in the previous verses, at the mountain when all of Israel was assembled. To get their attention. To destroy His enemies. To deliver His people.

The rivers and sea mentioned come again from the Exodus. When the Israelites had their backs to the wall, God blew apart the flooding rivers. Both the Nile River and the Jordan River were changed. Prior to the exodus, the Nile was turned to blood. The Nile was one of the major centers of Egyptian culture, religion, and commerce. And yet God polluted it to demonstrate His superiority over all the deity alternatives, that man can manifest in his own imagination.

The Red Sea was at flood stage and yet it was stopped in its tracks and piled up into two walls of water (the flood waters on the one side and the incoming tide on the other) leaving a path of escape for the Israelites.

Again some forty years later, the Jordan was at flood stage when it was time for the Israelites to cross over into the Promised Land of Canaan. This time the water piled up into a single wall on the upstream side only, as the downstream side drained dry for their crossing.

Nothing can stand in the way of Gods plan. He may ride on horseback or on chariot where He wishes, without breaking stride, without slowing down. History is under Gods control and nothing and no one can alter Gods plan.

These questions need no answer, but are rhetorical in nature and are intended to cause the reader to think. That is something that many people do not do. Studying the Word of God is one thing, but to ponder what you have just read, to ponder the realities of the information and come to an understanding is quite another thing.

Reading alone will not cause your spiritual growth. But learning the information. Remembering the information, recalling it, and then applying it to your own life is the key to advancement in ones spiritual life.

Does the river become polluted in our life? Is the sea parted? Is the second river stopped in our behalf? The answer to all of these questions is yes - if we are positive toward God, Jesus Christ, and Bible doctrine.

The pollution of the Nile is our recognition of all sin, and false philosophies, and misdirection's in life. The parting of the Sea, is recognition of Gods salvation work and our crossing over into a new life, the spiritual life. The wandering in the desert (though not mentioned but spans the time between salvation and spiritual maturity) is our daily advancement (or not) toward spiritual maturity while living inside an adversarial world. The second crossing, over the Jordan into the Promised land, is our attainment to maturity and life in the Promised land is life while a mature believer. You reap what you did not sow, and harvest what you did not cultivate. God does all of the work for us in life.

We can be defiant against Him and we leave ourselves open to the will of the world. We see in the news that the world is indeed more powerful than anyone of us. The earthquake in Indonesia is a yet another good example of how quick things can happen in life with no warning. If you are prepared spiritually, then disasters make no difference. You are whisked off to glory with God forever. If you wasted your life by ignoring your spiritual side, then it is your loss. For unbelievers, a very big loss. Gods plan marches on.

Is God angry at the forces of nature? No. Nothing in life will hamper the plan of God. Everything happens for a purpose. There are no accidents in history. There is always a purpose, a design.

It is not for us to understand all of the intricacies of life, but to prepare ourselves spiritually, so that we will be on the alert and prepared for whatever comes along in our personal lives. To do otherwise is the action of a fool.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
