Habakkuk 3:10-12

Lesson # Habakkuk 3:10-12
Study Material - Habakkuk 3:10-12

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Habakkuk 3:10-12

10 The mountains [har] saw [ra'ah] thee, and they trembled [chuwl] : the overflowing [zerem] of the water [mayim] passed by [abar] : the deep [tahowm] uttered [nathan] his voice [qowl] , and lifted up [nasa] his hands [yad] on high [rowm] .
11 The sun [shemesh] and moon [yareach] stood still [amad] in their habitation [zabuwl] : at the light [owr] of thine arrows [chets] they went [halak] , and at the shining [nogahh] of thy glittering [baraq] spear [chaniyth] .
12 Thou didst march through [tsa`ad] the land [erets] in indignation [za`am] , thou didst thresh [duwsh] the heathen [gowy] in anger [aph] . KJV-Interlinear

10 The mountains saw Thee and quaked; The downpour of waters swept by. The deep uttered forth its voice, It lifted high its hands. 11 Sun and moon stood in their places; They went away at the light of Thine arrows, At the radiance of Thy gleaming spear. 12 In indignation Thou didst march through the earth; In anger Thou didst trample the nations. NASB

When God appeared to Moses, there was a huge earthquake. A trembling reaction to Gods presence and power. A writhing in pain, as in fear, or as a woman in a very difficult childbirth, nature will twist, and turn, and twist, in agony and terror.

The references to the downpour of waters, or flooding waters, are natures recognition of Gods power. Underground waters of the deep, were personified as speaking (roared, literally meaning, 'gave their voice'), and its high waves were personified as having hands, the deep lifted its waves (hands). Gods power can cause tremendous upheaval in nature. The Red Sea and the Jordan River had both responded to Gods command, Psa. 77:16,19, 114:3,5.

We have seen violent acts of nature this fall as several hurricanes hit Florida in an unprecedented fashion. Likewise the earthquake in Indonesia this past Christmas (just a couple of days ago) appears to be heading to unprecedented levels of destruction as more and more of the dead are discovered. Yesterday the count was 8000 dead, now it is over 60,000 dead. By the time you read this tomorrow (Wednesday, Dec. 29th, 2004), the count will probably be much higher.

And though we, the living, are discovering the extent of the destruction and death many days later, it all occurred within just a couple of hours of the earthquake. One minute the sun was shining and the weather was fine for being lazy on the beach, and the next minute .....

The mountains and the rains and the seas respect God. And so do the sun and moon. The two brightest sources of light or reflected light that are near to planet earth. Gods glory is so bright, that the light from the sun is blocked out by His overwhelming light and power.

In Joshua's day, the sun stood still for a whole day in an unprecedented act of the universe.

Josh. 10:12-14
12 Then Joshua spoke to the LORD in the day when the LORD delivered up the Amorites before the sons of Israel, and he said in the sight of Israel, 'O sun, stand still at Gibeon, And O moon in the valley of Aijalon.' 13 So the sun stood still, and the moon stopped, Until the nation avenged themselves of their enemies. Is it not written in the book of Jashar? And the sun stopped in the middle of the sky, and did not hasten to go down for about a whole day. 14 And there was no day like that before it or after it, when the LORD listened to the voice of a man; for the LORD fought for Israel. NASB

With all of the power that the sun can conger up within itself, and we know today that it is a huge violently exploding body in our solar system, it is no match for the power of Gods arrows of destruction. The power of the sun pales when set side by side with Gods power.

God has a plan. His plan is a perfect plan. His plan has the best interest in mind for each one of us. God marches through the earth as a thundering giant (no tiptoeing here), to weld His will. His plan marches right on. There is nothing to stop or alter its course. Do we have to see His power in action before we believe it? Do we have to feel His power against us personally, before we believe it?

There are no accidents in life. There are no mistakes in history. Everything that happens, happens for a purpose. Either the evil are vanquished, the righteous are reinforced in their faith, the survivors are given stern warning, the planet is being nudged into an alignment for some yet future event, or perhaps all of these things apply.

As the recent disasters have made it quite clear, there is noting that mankind can do to prevent them. Man is very, very small when faced with the power of nature. How much more so (infinitely smaller) when faced with the power of God? But mankind can prepare himself for his own spiritual future. The question of course it, 'Will he?'

Too often after a violent act of nature, people will say, 'It was just an act of nature, and nothing more.'

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
