Habakkuk 3:16

Lesson # Habakkuk 3:16
Study Material - Habakkuk 3:16

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Habakkuk 3:16

16 When I heard [shama] , my belly [beten] trembled [ragaz] ; my lips [saphah] quivered [tsalal] at the voice [qowl] : rottenness [raqab] entered [bow] into my bones [etsem] , and I trembled [ragaz] in myself, that I might rest [nuwach] in the day [yowm] of trouble [tsarah] : when he cometh up [alah] unto the people [am] , he will invade them with his troops [guwd] . KJV-Interlinear

16 I heard and my inward parts trembled, At the sound my lips quivered. Decay enters my bones, And in my place I tremble. Because I must wait quietly for the day of distress, For the people to arise who will invade us. NASB

When a people go negative toward God and doctrine, then disaster is on the horizon. We may not always know the source of the disaster, but it is certain to come.

The people of Judah had long neglected the teaching of the scriptures. They had more important things to do. The foundations of Judaism (though not formally known as such in Habakkuk's day) were in their infancy. Regulations and other social rules were taking precedence over the fundamental teachings of the scriptures.

People were too busy for God. People were making up their own rules for life and conduct. People were getting too 'educated' for such things as theology. Who needs God anyway?

When a society goes negative, then they come to the point sooner or later, of deciding that they do not need God. They know enough to get along in the world by themselves. All one has to do is live a good and decent life, or at least that is the public front of the secular philosophy.

In fact people who promote these ideas publicly, are in fact robbers, and thieves, and frauds. We have already studied this fact. Negative people are people without a clue as to what life is all about. Yet they believe that they know all there is to know about life. They are an educated people! After all it is the 21st century !!! As though a date on the calendar has anything to say about mans wisdom.

So Habakkuk looks around and sees the lack of spiritual assets in his country. That means judgment. He looks beyond the borders of the country and sees the reputation of the Chaldeans as they march through the countries to the north. The invasion and fall of Judah is only a matter of time.

Rational people would prepare for the potential invasion. Irrational people (those who lack doctrine in their soul) simply disregard the warning signs. It will never happen to us.

Through the 90's terrorism was on the rise. The signs were there but they were ignored. Then in 2001, we got the wake up call the hard way. We in this country, and along with many other countries, took a stand and went on the offensive. A very wise decision against an enemy who has no geographical boundaries.

Despite the attack, the world did not respond enough back to God. Many parts of the world remain in denial toward God, Christ, and Christianity in general. Africa has been in denial for decades, indeed for centuries and they have always had overwhelming problems.

The recent earthquake in Indonesia, and the earthquake in Iran a year ago (you probably forgot about that one), are both wake up calls. Turn away from the wickedness of rejecting God, or meet with the consequences of judgment.

Many folks can look at the trouble in the world and rationalize that it is all happening 'over there' or 'somewhere else.' It isn't happening to me, here, in my home. It is just an unfortunate accident of nature.

But be forewarned. Where indifference toward God exists, there trouble will manifest itself. When the population is overwhelmingly indifferent, then the trouble comes on a greater scale.

We can look elsewhere and see the devastation and say to ourselves, 'Oh, how awful.' But then think, 'Well it is over there.' Why should a person wait until trouble is at his own door step, before he becomes convinced that God is needed in his life?

The devastation in Indonesia and the bordering countries is over 150,000 dead now. At least that is what is on the news. What number of deaths will it take to change the minds of the negative? What scale of destruction will it take to convince people that God is needed in their lives, and furthermore, that they indeed need to become obedient to His will?

Habakkuk was trembling. Why? Because he was afraid? No. We will see that in the next verses. He was trembling because he, as a mature believer, knew that trouble was on its way, and that it was not going to be pretty. Look at the news pictures of Indonesia. When a normal person sees trouble on the horizon, and they know that it is unavoidable, and that it is going to be bad, they become physically and mentally ill with anxiety, with grief, with anticipation of the horrors that the trouble will be bringing.

Trouble does not have to be in the form of an invasion, but can come in many forms. An earthquake, a tsunami, a disease, financial trouble, unemployment, medical difficulties, social problems, marital problems, etc., etc., etc. The world has an endless list of things that can mess up your life.

Those who have doctrine in their soul, can read history and they will have concerns. Those who lack doctrine in their souls, will be indifferent to the warning signs just as they have been indifferent toward God. When trouble strikes, they will be the first to be sooooo... surprised! And that surprise and any prolonged helplessness, will turn into grief, will turn into frustration, into anger, into violence and so forth. Why me? Why me? Why me?

And yet the answer is always before us. God, Christ, doctrine, fellowship, obedience to the responsibilities that God expects of us.

Now it is the 31st of December and some are grieving and some are watching football. Another year has come and gone and yet if you are reading this, then you are still alive and you have the opportunity to advance to the winners circle of life. Study, learn, grow up spiritually, and you will be placed in the seat of honor by God Himself. Do you remember the memory verse of this past week. I'll leave it up for just one more day. Usually I change it each Sunday.

When will the light come on and your Bible studies become a serious reality in your life? Do the events in Indonesia seem serious enough?

Another year has passed and again I wish to thank all of you who support this Bible Study. From all of my family to you and yours, have a Happy New Year and more importantly, 'Keep in the Word,' Isa. 41:10.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
