Haggai 2:4-5

4 Yet now be strong [chazaq], O Zerubbabel [Zarubbabel], saith [na'um] the LORD [Yahovah]; and be strong [chazaq], O Joshua [Yahowshuwa], son [ben] of Josedech [Yahowtsadaq], the high [gadowl] priest [kohen]; and be strong [chazaq], all ye people [am] of the land [erets], saith [na'um] the LORD [Yahovah], and work [asah]: for I am with you, saith [na'um] the LORD [Yahovah] of hosts [tsaba]:
5 According to the word [dabar] that I covenanted [karath] with you when ye came [yatsa] out of Egypt [Mitsrayim], so my spirit [ruwach] remaineth [amad] among [tavek] you: fear [yare] ye not. KJV-Interlinear

4 'But now take courage, Zerubbabel,' declares the LORD,' take courage also, Joshua son of Jehozadak, the high priest, and all you people of the land take courage,' declares the LORD,' and work; for I am with you,' says the LORD of hosts. 5 'As for the promise which I made you when you came out of Egypt, My Spirit is abiding in your midst; do not fear!' NASB

The people were getting into an attitude of arrogance making comments regarding the current rebuilding of the temple as compared to the original Temple of Solomon. In addition they (implied) suggested it was they who were somehow better people having been chosen for this opportunity.

Haggai corrected them in their thinking. 'Look at this Temple. It's a shambles. How can there be any comparison after just a couple of weeks work? Not to mention that we are still not a free nation.'

Then Haggai gives them encouragement, 'Be strong and work.' 'In that you will find satisfaction.' The latter is implied. 'For God is with you.' Life will only be satisfying if God is in our life.

This same message was given in several verses throughout the Bible.

1 Chron. 28:20
20 Then David said to his son Solomon, 'Be strong and courageous, and act; do not fear nor be dismayed, for the LORD God, my God, is with you. NASB

Isa. 63:11
11 Then His people remembered the days of old, of Moses. Where is He who brought them up out of the sea with the shepherds of His flock? Where is He who put His Holy Spirit in the midst of them, NASB

God gave the people of Haggai's day the same promise that He gave the people of the Exodus generation, as He gave the same encouragement to David and to Solomon, and the same promise that He gives to you.

'Be strong. Be courageous. Work and do not fear.'

Now some will think that this means that they should get a job and work, work, work. That they should work out with the weights or exercise and otherwise do something to make their physical bodies healthy and in good shape. This couldn't be further from the truth.

God did not put us on this earth to look good. He did place us here to work our souls with doctrine and likewise work that doctrine by applying its principles to our daily life. One of these days we will study the Book of James (the Application of Wisdom) and sort out all of this working and doing for God, stuff.

All that we do, we are to do in the midst of the Holy Spirit. In other words we are to be in fellowship and by that we allow the Holy Spirit to do His work through us and for us. We do not feel nor otherwise sense Him in us. The spiritual realm is not of this physical realm.

When you believed in Christ one of the many things that occurred was the indwelling of all three members of the Trinity (Father, Son, and Spirit) inside of you. You do not feel their presence, nor can you sense it, nor can you detect or measure it. Anyone who thinks that they can, needs to get back on their medicine. Review your Salvation Blessings chart either online or in your Charts E-book.

God was with the Israelites in the Exodus as they escaped the Egyptian military. He was with them in the desert. He was with them as they crossed the Jordan into the promised land. God was with the people who were to rebuild the Temple.

God is with anyone who complies with His definition of the spiritual life. Namely, being saved, residence in fellowship, studying doctrine, applying what you learn to your spiritual life, and otherwise being obedient (responsible and accountable) for that which God expects of you. Review the spiritual checklist from time to time.

Therefore, if you comply, then God is on your side and working for you in your life and in your history, so you have nothing to fear from life. Not even death. God is consistent, and reliable, and dependable, and in Him we look and find true courage, our confidence, and security, and stability, and happiness, and everything that is worthwhile in life.

There is no other source in this world that can give you that result. And you cannot accomplish these things on your own.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
