Haggai 2:15-17

15 And now, I pray you, consider [suwm] [lebab] from this day [yowm] and upward [ma`al], from before [terem] a stone [eben] was laid [suwm] upon a stone [eben] in the temple [heykal] of the LORD [Yahovah]: 16 Since those days were, when one came [bow] to an heap arem ] of twenty [esriym] measures, there were but ten [eser]: when one came [bow] to the pressfat [yeqeb] for to draw out [chasaph] fifty [chamishshiym] vessels out of the press [puwrah], there were but twenty [esriym].
17 I smote [nakah] you with blasting [shadephah] and with mildew [yeraqown] and with hail [barad] in all the labours [ma`aseh] of your hands [yad]; yet ye turned not to me, saith [na'um] the LORD [Yahovah]. KJV-Interlinear

15 'But now, do consider from this day onward: before one stone was placed on another in the temple of the LORD, 16 from that time when one came to a grain heap of twenty measures, there would be only ten; and when one came to the wine vat to draw fifty measures, there would be only twenty. 17 'I smote you and every work of your hands with blasting wind, mildew, and hail; yet you did not come back to Me,' declares the LORD. NASB

Before the revival of the Haggai messages, people were in dire straits. Their economic situation was less than they expected.

They harvested less than half of what they anticipated. Their vineyard production was less than half of what they expected. All of their lives, in other words, were less than expected.

People look around them and they evaluate life based on their five senses. They want and they hustle to get it, or they expect some kind of lucky streak to get what they want, or they expect a hand out of some kind.

Or life is just too great for them and they run off into some form of escape (drugs, alcohol, fantasies) to avoid life altogether.

We all have an out in this life and we only have to look to the scriptures that are written in the Bible.

Too easy for some. Silly sounding for most. Not enough concrete results for many. Too ambiguous. Too, well, too childish of an approach for a life that obviously requires more than just words to make ones living.

And that is where everyone gets lost in the realities of the world. They pursue life in the darkness of their soul and they do not see the reality of Gods help in putting together every minute detail in ones life.

Jesus Christ controls history. Jesus Christ controls every little detail in history. Jesus Christ controls every detail in your life. If you are prosperous, then it is courtesy of Gods grace, not due to your great abilities. He may prosper you in order to test your responsibility with that which you receive.

Just by being prosperous does not mean that you are spiritually great. Likewise, being poor does not mean that you are spiritually inadequate.

God blesses us and tests each one of us on an individual basis. Very few pass the tests. Very few look at the realities, the experiences of their life, and see Gods hand in everything.

Remember that God chose the moment of your birth, not you, not your parents. Your momma might have had a child come out of her, but it was God who placed the unique human life (you) inside that little infant body causing it to breath for the first time.

Perhaps it was Gods sense of humor that brought you here at this time in history.

Regardless of the circumstances of your life, it was and is God who brings every detail of your life together. In eternity past, God saw every moment of your life and made provision for your every need. You have only to look to Him in order to make your life better.

He provides the family, the education, the job opportunities, the customers, the medical discoveries and more. He provided for every detail of your life. To ignore Him means that your life will still have some grace provisions in it, but you will maximize your difficulties and minimize your opportunities - your long term opportunities.

In the spiritual life, being rich or poor is irrelevant. One person can pass or fail in the spiritual life just as easily as the next person.

Your attitude is the only thing that can get in your way.

Deut. 28:22-23
22 The LORD will smite you with consumption and with fever and with inflammation and with fiery heat and with the sword and with blight and with mildew, and they shall pursue you until you perish. 23 And the heaven which is over your head shall be bronze, and the earth which is under you, iron. NASB

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
