Isaiah 5:7

7 For the vineyard [kerem] of the LORD [Yahovah] of hosts [tsaba'] is the house [bayith] of Israel, [Yisra'el] and the men ['iysh] of Judah [Yahuwdah] his pleasant [sha`shua`] plant: [neta`] and he looked [qavah] for judgment, [mishpat] but behold oppression; [mispach] for righteousness, [tsadaqah] but behold a cry. [tsa`aqah] KJV-Interlinear

7 For the vineyard of the Lord of hosts is the house of Israel, And the men of Judah His delightful plant., Thus He looked for justice, but behold, bloodshed;, For righteousness, but behold, a cry of distress.  NASB

And now God, through Isaiah, gives us the application of this parable, along with a paronomasia, or a play on words.

God is the farmer. The vineyard is the object of His persistent and unceasing nurturing and care. This is His only vineyard, which is the nation of Israel. Among all of the nations of the world, Israel represents the single and only nation that God cares for.

Judah symbolizes Gods people. All who believe in the Savior, who we know as Jesus Christ, are Gods people and members of Gods family and therefore members of Gods chosen people and therefore Gods chosen nation, which is the total collection of all of Gods people.

God planted his vineyard, which is His people, and nurtured them with doctrine, or truth.

God looked for judgment, which means He looked for common sense, discernment in truth, good decisions and found only the shedding of blood, which refers to all manner of sins and evil. Sin is death, spiritual death and therefore the shedding of blood symbolizes this death.

God looks for righteousness, which here represents clear thinking, orientation to life and reality, and He found only clamor, disorder, anarchy, confusion and so forth.

And this is the paronomasia. God looked for discernment and found blood, He looked for clarity and found confusion.

God has provided us all with the greatest provision possible, even our difficult circumstances are blessings for instruction, and unfortunately most folks disregard His truth and pursue their own version of truth, which is not truth. And for this, there are repercussions.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
