Isaiah 5:15

http://www.dailybiblestudy.org

15 And the mean man ['adam] shall be brought down, [shachach] and the mighty man ['iysh] shall be humbled, [shaphel] and the eyes [`ayin] of the lofty [gaboahh] shall be humbled: [shaphel] KJV-Interlinear

15 So the common man will be humbled, and the man of importance abased, The eyes of the proud also will be abased. NASB

The mean or common man, which is a reference to anyone, the mighty man or anyone of importance, the lofty man or anyone who thinks highly of themselves, are all references to people who have rejected Gods doctrine, whether intentionally or through arrogance or lust or hate or indifference or for whatever reason, and have chosen the life of this world as their residence rather than the spiritual life provided by God.

This includes all unbelievers, and all who believe that they have a better idea as to maintaining a relationship with God, and certainly includes all who reject God for another god, or for the lusts of their heart.

This includes the pursuit of life through self-righteousness, through crime, through sin, through indifference, through abuse, through deceit, and so forth, wherein people seek pride in their own efforts and beliefs.

These will all be destroyed along with their beliefs and possessions and all that they have taken pride in during their life.

In the prior verse, where death gladly receives the dead, the destination is not emphasized, but the death process is emphasized.

Pursuit of this world and rejection or indifference toward God and truth, will lead not to success or fulfillment of ones life, but to certain death and failure and loss.

This needs to be made very clear. There is no success in this world. Not even if you become a million, billion, trillion, gazillionaire and own a country. Without Christ and doctrine, death and the land of the dead will receive you with open arms, and there you will be just like everyone else - dead and without any possessions.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
