Isa. 66:4

4 I also will choose [bachar] their delusions [ta`aluwl], and will bring [bow'] their fears [maguwrah] upon them; because when I called [qara'], none did answer [`anah]; when I spake [dabar], they did not hear [shama`]: but they did [`asah] evil [ra`] before mine eyes [`ayin], and chose [bachar] that in which I delighted [chaphets] not. 4 So I will choose their punishments, And I will bring on them what they dread. Because I called, but no one answered; I spoke, but they did not listen. And they did evil in My sight, And chose that in which I did not delight. NASB

People, who lack Bible doctrine in their soul, live in fear. They may have a pleasant public face, but inside of their own soul, where we cannot see, they live in fear.

Lack of truth leads to uncertainty. No one can be certain of anything, when they lack truth in their frame of reference. Uncertainty leads to insecurities and even paranoia's. And all of this leads to unhappiness.

People, who are negative toward truth, are an unhappy crowd.

They have truth in the form of the scriptures, always before them. Or better stated, the Bible is the window through which one can see truth. There is no other means of access to truth in this universe.

When you reject truth by whatever means, you have only lies to embrace. Lies have no foundation on which one can build a permanent or secure life.

Therefore, the insecurities of life enter into the picture of ones mind. Lies are an illusion. They might present the appearance of good standards or beliefs by which one can live his life, but that is the delusion.

And a very strong delusion it is.

People want a good life for themselves. That is only normal and natural. People want happiness, they want things, and they want security and freedom from worry. People want a lot for themselves and for their families, but where they fail in life, are in the means of obtaining their dreams.

They reject doctrine, and there are many forms of rejection, and that leads to their downfall into the pit of the lies of life. Their pursuit for happiness is also a running away from the things they fear. The pursuit of happiness runs from the fear of not having happiness. The pursuit of success, runs from the fear of not having success. The pursuit of money, runs from the fear of not having money. The pursuit of things, runs from the fear of not having things. The pursuit of security, runs from the fear of not having security and so forth.

Without Bible doctrine in the soul, then the very thing that is pursued, becomes the source of ones fear, and the basis for ones misery and suffering.

Without Bible doctrine in the soul, a person has no truth, and therefore no basis for capacity for life, which means no appreciation, no contentment, no satisfaction. Never being satisfied, never being contented, means never being happy.

People without doctrine also become the victims of their own fears. Fears, which they bring on themselves, because they do not listen to the Word of God.

God calls constantly to every human being on the planet. This Bible study is His calling. The radio can be a calling, any church that teaches legitimate Bible studies can be Gods calling. Life in itself can be a calling to recognize truth and the source of truth. Just look up at the vastness of the sky on any clear night, or just notice a church building or a cemetery along the road. All of these and more, call out to everyone, that there is far more to life than meets the eye.

Principles of right and wrong are a calling. Principles of morality are a calling. Principles of responsibility and accountability are a calling. Principles of divine establishment are a calling. Even principles of common sense can be a calling to hear truth. The very existence of many religions, cults, and beliefs in the world should alert you to the fact that they all can t be right. The common thread among all of the religions, cults and beliefs of the world, that sets them apart from Christianity, is their rejection of Jesus Christ.

But people do not listen. They prefer the calling of their own sin natures. And the sin nature promotes the lies of the world in the form of sin, on the one hand, and human good, on the other. Both of which are rejected by truth. Both of which are the production of evil.

So, the very thing that people pursue in life, namely happiness, becomes the source of their unhappiness, because they pursue it in the wrong way. They pursue it apart from Bible doctrine.
