You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Job 6:7

7 The things that my soul [nephesh] refused [ma'en] to touch [naga`] are as my sorrowful [davay] meat [lechem]. KJV-Interlinear

7 'My soul refuses to touch them; They are like loathsome food to me. NASB

When one eats food, it isn't the soul, which eats but the body. You pick up food with your fork or spoon, place the food in your mouth, chew it, swallow it, digest it, keep the good and discard the bad through various bodily functions.

The soul resides in the brain and is not a participant in this physical food digestion process. The soul cannot touch anything. It has no hands.

But it is Job's soul, which refuses to touch the foods that have no flavor. Foods we studied yesterday.

So what is Job saying?

Well, for the mind there are two types of food. There is academic food, and spiritual food. The academic foods are what you do when you learn to read and write, and so forth. This is the ability of the mind to absorb through your various senses of sight, hearing, touch, smell, taste, and we will add one more, reason.

You learn academically all of the things that affect your life. Things from this world.

Spiritual food, on the other hand is not food from this world, it is a supernatural food. Both foods are for the soul, but the spiritual foods come from God through doctrine.

Now here is the really confusing part. You can read, 'In the beginning ...,' 'Jesus was born in the manger ,' 'David killed Goliath ,' and so forth.

How do any of these Bible stories prepare you for life? They do not teach you how to cook or sew, or change the oil in your car. They do not teach you how to manage a business, or build a rocket, or even how to change diapers. So, what exactly does the Bible do, that helps us in this world?

The Bible provides us with properly seasoned foods.

Academic food is unseasoned food. Blah food. Food without taste. Spiritual food brings flavor, and aroma, and zest into your life. And that flavor and zest are your insight and discernment in life. They are your capacity or ability to handle whatever the world throws at you, and appreciate whatever God brings into your life.

Review the charts of the soul. If I remember correctly, I have three charts on the soul on the web site, that show the mechanics of how the soul functions.

In the properly functioning soul, the believer in fellowship receives spiritual information courtesy of the Holy Spirit. You may be reading these words, but if you are in fellowship, it is the Holy Spirit, which is revealing their spiritual value to you. If you are out of fellowship, then these words are nothing more than an exercise in academic reading.

Spiritual information is diverted to the human spirit, and then channeled into your soul where it becomes the building blocks for your spiritual structure within your soul. That spiritual structure is the source of your spiritual muscle.

All of this activity is courtesy of the Holy Spirit, whom by the way, you cannot see, or feel, or sense in anyway. The spiritual life is not a part of this physical world. So don't be fooled by idiots who are getting the ghost, or talking to God, or having some type of seizure for God.

Your only access to God is through your daily study, while in fellowship. Being in fellowship is the environment of your worship. Whether you are studying, or praying, or changing diapers, makes no difference. Being in fellowship is the key to your successful spiritual life.

Now, Job refuses distasteful foods. What does he despise? Non-spiritual information, or non-truth. If he were here in our present day, he would be nauseated by the liberal views that saturate the media. He would be nauseated by the conservative views, which depart from sound doctrine. He would be nauseated by the nonsense that comes out of many of the talk shows, or television shows, or rap music, or anything that promotes anti-truth concepts.

Though we are used to them because we see and hear them everyday of our lives, most folks think that all of the worldly views are a part of a normal life. And of course, the world wants you to think that way. It keeps you from your Bible study.

A normal person won't eat tasteless foods. They are boring and no fun. But if you do not know that your food is tasteless, then how can you know that it is tasteless? Hummm, did I say that right?

Only by eating foods that have taste, can you know that you have been missing something. Bible doctrine is that tasteful food, spiritual food for the soul.

Also, we all know that one meal does not make a life. Most of us eat two or three times a day, plus snacks. Why would it be any different in the spiritual life? So, your spiritual life demands a daily intake and digestion of spiritual food.

If a day goes by that you don't eat, wouldn't you get hungry. It should be the same with your spiritual life. When you get to the point in your life, that you just can't let a day go by, without reading the Bible, then your growth has actually taken root in your life.

Most of us wear certain things from day today. For some it might be a piece of jewelry, a watch, a certain piece of clothing, or something that you do everyday. You do it because you have gotten comfortable with it. And if you don't follow your habit or pattern you feel naked, sort of, because you didn't do or wear that certain thing.

That is how your daily study should be. If you go to bed at night without reading your daily study, then you should feel uncomfortable, even to the point that you'll get up, read your study, and then go to bed. If you don't have one of those little psalm, proverb pocket size books, you should get one to keep with you.

That is what Job is saying here. The distasteful world is what he rejects. He loves his Lord, he loves his scriptures, he loves his life, which has flavor, despite his present misery.

Job won't compromise his spiritual standards, just to obtain some excuse in life. He won't compromise his views, just to satisfy his friends opinions. He won't compromise his spiritual standards, just to gain some convenient entertainment or satisfaction from this world.

There are only two opinions in all of creation, Gods, and everything else. Your thoughts and actions reveal, which one you have chosen for your life.

Pursuing Gods opinions will benefit you beyond your imagination, forever. Pursuing everything you are used to in this world, will gain you nothing. You might want to re-read the last couple of chapters of Revelation and Isaiah.

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
