Joel 1:19-20

Lesson # Joel 1:19-20
Study Material - Joel 1:19-20

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Joel 1:19-20

19 O LORD [Yahovah] , to thee will I cry [qara] : for the fire [esh] hath devoured [akal] the pastures [na'ah] of the wilderness [midbar] , and the flame [lehabah] hath burned [lahat] all the trees [ets] of the field [sadeh] .
20 The beasts [bahemah] of the field [sadeh] cry [arag] also unto thee: for the rivers [aphiyq] of waters [mayim] are dried up [yabesh] , and the fire [esh] hath devoured [akal] the pastures [na'ah] of the wilderness [midbar] . KJV-Interlinear

19 To Thee, O LORD, I cry; For fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness, And the flame has burned up all the trees of the field. 20 Even the beasts of the field pant for Thee; For the water brooks are dried up, And fire has devoured the pastures of the wilderness. NASB

Now remember that we are in Joel by way of Revelation 14. We are studying the 'Day of the Lord.' These principles of doctrine are not restricted to that future date. Likewise they are not restricted to Joel's day. All doctrinal principles apply to every generation, to every individual in history regardless of when they live or will live in history.

What we have seen so far in Joel, is a nation which functions in its day to day life. The things related to worship are superficial and shallow. People do not even give to the teaching of Gods Word, or if they do give, it is for the wrong reasons.

So discipline comes along in the form of a very small creature (the locust), who alone can't do much, but when multiplied into huge numbers, can bring a nation to its knees.

People did not give (the lack of food and drink offerings) therefore God removes the resources they have such that now there is nothing with which to make even the smallest gift. The economy is dried up. People are under great stress. All because they did not give much credence to God, to His Word, and to their spiritual lives. They were greedy and selfish, even if only subtly.

When people consider their spiritual lives as nothing to be concerned with, then that is the beginning of big trouble.

Now Joel brings one more component into the picture. The wild and tame beasts of the field. When the nation is under stress the people suffer certainly, but the animal population suffers as well.

Even animals have the sense to call out to God for help. Though we cannot hear this cry for help, it apparently occurs.

Job 38:41
41 'Who prepares for the raven its nourishment, When its young cry to God, And wander about without food? NASB

Psa. 104:21
21 The young lions roar after their prey, And seek their food from God. NASB

Now we as humans have a soul. Something that animals do not have. Animals do not have any understanding of the higher things of life, but man certainly should have an understanding. Yet animals have the good common sense to call out to God when they are I need, but people often prove to be dumber than animals.

And so you ask, 'What of those animals who die in the wild, or die of starvation?' Well we live in the Devils world. In the Millennium there will be extended life spans and prosperity for all. But for now, Satan is allowed to rule. Satan whines constantly anyway (study of Job), but soon (in the Tribulation) his time will run out.

So we are taught the principles of life. We are taught the signs to look for in society and especially within our own life. Unfortunately many people who are indifferent toward God, or antagonistic toward Him, do not see and refuse to see their own flaws. All problems are due to someone else's fault. So if we cannot find perfection in others, then we refuse to look to God for answers for our own life. And so the unbeliever, or the negative or part time believer (so to speak), simply reject the common sense that God gave to animals.

Look back at your study notes for the Tribulation. The Rapture occurs. Should make the news, one would think. All those missing persons reports. Then there are two very unusual people (Gods two witnesses) over in Jerusalem, teaching hell fire and damnation, with some pretty impressive miracle powers. Then the world falls apart. Crime gets unleashed, the weather becomes unleashed, the economy is turned upside down, inflation runs rampant worldwide, disease is unstoppable, wars break out. All of this and the result is that one-fourth of the worlds population dies. Well if 1 ½ billion people died in our current day, that would make the news. Wouldn't you think?

But God gave animals more common sense apparently, as those future peoples will become more and more defiant. Rather than calling out to God, they will become more intense in their pursuit of the anti-christ and their evil life styles.

What is the answer to any crisis? Prayer. Intense prayer. We look to God. We look to God through what we know from our Bible study. By focusing on God, we stabilize our lives. Our thoughts have less emotion and more logical thought. We begin to think our way through our problems and we begin to see the 'outs' which God makes available to everyone who comes under attack from problems in life. Need a job? Go out to find one. Have a medical problem? See a doctor. Have someone beating on you? Separate yourself from them in some fashion.

Have a problem for which there is no apparent out? Then you fall back on prayer and wait for God to bring something along. Continue in your daily life. Continue in your daily Bible study. Open up your eyes to being taught and then learn doctrine and the principles of life, and move forward in your spiritual life. It will overflow into your temporal life and your life will be better for it.

Remember that God is the only source for provision and support in this entire universe. There is no other source you can turn to. Not your IQ. Not your education. Not to your connections. Not to your pocketbook whatever its balance is.

If you place God first, then the problems of this world will be like attacks of a mosquito. You just swat them and move on. If however, you turn your back on God and reject His provision, then He will graciously grant your request and withdraw His support from you. Then you are on your own.

Arrogant people would initially like this. But when the world falls down all around them, then they will learn the hard way, that they are dumber than even the dumbest animal. Not exactly the greatest legacy to boast about!

End of lesson.

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
