Joel 2:1b

Lesson # Joel 2:1b
Study Material - Joel 2:1b

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Joel 2:1b

1 Blow [taqa] ye the trumpet [showphar] in Zion [Tsiyown] , and sound an alarm [ruwa] in my holy [qodesh] mountain [har] : let all the inhabitants [yashab] of the land [erets] tremble [ragaz] : for the day [yowm] of the LORD [Yahovah] cometh [bow] , for it is nigh at hand [qarowb] ; KJV-Interlinear

1 Blow a trumpet in Zion, And sound an alarm on My holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble, For the day of the LORD is coming; Surely it is near, NASB

Blow the trumpet in the land, either to call the invading army together, and then the trumpet sounds a charge, or rather to give notice to Judah and Jerusalem of the approach of the judgment.

Here we have the call going out to Zion. Zion is a reference to Gods people, in Gods land. This is a call to all believers (specifically here to the Israelites of Joel's day) but to all believers throughout history. To all believers positive and negative toward God.

Num. 10:8
8 The priestly sons of Aaron, moreover, shall blow the trumpets; and this shall be for you a perpetual statute throughout your generations. NASB

The Word of God is a perpetual statute to all peoples throughout history. It is a constant call to be prepared, to be alert. We live in the jungle of the universe. In the jungle (which we have already studied) we find a no mans land. It is an everyone for themselves environment. It is people unfriendly, adversarial, challenging anyone and everyone to try to survive within its boundaries. No one can survive the jungle. It coldly and heartlessly swallows up everyone.

The trumpet is sounded. War is proclaimed. Prepare to meet God in His judgments. Tremble with uncontrollable fear and terror. Fear the one who can literally rip you apart with a mere thought.

Who will fear God? Only those who have a positive attitude toward God, and are active in their pursuit of His wisdom. Those who have part time positive attitude toward do not fear God, but really fear the consequences of living in this life. They fear losing a job, losing a home, losing a marriage, losing some competitive event, losing out in some social activity. People who make this world the center of their life, fear the things of the world, rather than fearing the loss of the one who is infinitely greater.

In world history, there is not a generation that has not seen conflict in the world somewhere. In each of our individual lives, there is not one person who has not been confronted with some sort of difficulty. Even if ones life sails along on a bed or rose petals, death is always at the end of that life. Death is the ultimate and final challenge. No one (except Jesus Christ) has ever defeated death. No one (on their own) ever will.

So the alarm goes out. Be prepared. The enemy is coming. The enemy is always out there just waiting for the opportunity to hammer you.

The alarm of God is ever before us. It announces and warns us all. Those who heed the warning will prepare themselves (Bible study, spiritual growth, spiritual maturity), leading to orientation to life, orientation to God, to everything. This in turn allows a person to make wise decisions and avoid problems.

To those who disregard all of this Bible stuff as nonsense, then there is their social circle, their philosophies, their own self deceit (for what they do is deceive themselves) that they can accomplish whatever it is they want in life without the aid of God.

Then the 'Day of the Lord' strikes in their life, in their generation, such that they are inundated with all the fury of the world (on the one hand) trying to destroy them, and Gods judgment (on the other hand) dealing out discipline.

Most smart folks will recognize that this is not how life was supposed to be, that something is definitely wrong. Perhaps a prayer to God might be in order????

Those who have been positive toward God and have been obedient to His will, will be heard. Those who have rejected God, will probably be all caught up in their suffering and emotions, and won't be heard. Their call to God is not sincere - merely a call for the convenience of Gods help, which they will immediately turn away from when the hurting stops.

Those who understand doctrine, understand that history must run its course. We'll suffer from time to time, but God always carries the positive believer through the trouble. It will end.

Warning always precedes judgment. Preparation always eases the suffering.

End of lesson.

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
