Joel 2:4-6

Lesson # Joel 2:4-6
Study Material - Joel 2:4-6

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Joel 2:4-6

4 The appearance [mar'eh] of them is as the appearance [mar'eh] of horses [cuwc] ; and as horsemen [parash] , so shall they run [ruwts] .
5 Like the noise [qowl] of chariots [merkabah] on the tops [ro'sh] of mountains [har] shall they leap [raqad] , like the noise [qowl] of a flame [lahab] of fire [esh] that devoureth [akal] the stubble [qash] , as a strong [atsuwm] people [am] set in battle [milchamah] array [arak] .
6 Before their face [paniym] the people [am] shall be much pained [chuwl] : all faces [paniym] shall gather [qabats] blackness [pa'ruwr] . KJV-Interlinear

4 Their appearance is like the appearance of horses; And like war horses, so they run. 5 With a noise as of chariots They leap on the tops of the mountains, Like the crackling of a flame of fire consuming the stubble, Like a mighty people arranged for battle. 6 Before them the people are in anguish; All faces turn pale. NASB

Joel describes the enemy, the locust army which has invaded the land, and against which there is no defense.

The day of battle will come and there is no avoiding it. Because we live in the devils world, there is always going to be trouble. The certainty of it means that you should want to prepare for its inevitability. Do you buy insurance for your home in the event of a fire? Do you have liability insurance in the event that someone might sue you? Do you exercise, to maintain your health? Aren't there innumerable things in life for which you prepare yourself in the event that something might go wrong?

Likewise in the spiritual life, trouble will come sooner or later. This is the devils world. And when it comes, then look out!

Spiritual battle comes with a vengeance. There is darkness and gloominess across the entire expanse of ones environment. For the individual one can be overwhelmed. For a nation the disaster is even greater as many are inundated in the disaster.

The attack of the world comes like war horses. A war horse is big, fast, strong, and fearless. He charges into battle with no concern for himself. The victim is run over, trampled under. Defenseless and helpless the victim has nowhere to turn.

The charge of the war horse driven army can be heard from miles away, and that too spreads fear in the victims who know that disaster is not far off and is coming with nothing to stop it. The result? Widespread terror, widespread panic, terrible pain. The word for pain and anguish connotes the pain experienced by a woman in labor as the labor pains suddenly seize her in what is to be a very difficult birth process. But the woman is alone, helpless, incapacitated, rendered incapable of even helping herself, and therefore in very big trouble.

This description pertains to individuals who are negative toward God. To individuals who perpetuate an attitude of indifference or even antagonism toward God. Look in the mirror and evaluate your attitude. If you are 'sort of' interested in God and a daily study and your spiritual life, then trouble will catch up with you sooner or later. If you are hot for learning and advancing in your spiritual life, then you'll know that trouble will come along sooner or later, and by virtue of your daily study, you'll be prepared.

Those who aren't prepared, then their faces are pale with fear, or death. In Joel's day this disaster came upon the nation, rendering it helpless. In our current day, we face many enemies. Perhaps terrorists will be successful against us in some way and render our economy helpless. Then again, if the nation is prepared, then we will intercept terrorists and prevent their plots.

Example. I'm sure you are all familiar with the failed plot to blow up LA International airport. No one was on alert, it was just a lucky thing when some of the airport people happen to stumble onto the guys who were attempting to do their deed. God had a hand in that. There was no formal alert, no one knew that the plot was coming.

Now in contrast, in Spain you have all seem the Spanish leave Iraq (wrong decision). Can't let the bad guys bully you around. That attitude had been forming for sometime within that nation. It didn't happen over night. The plot against that country was not intercepted and those trains were blown up.

I am only using these two incidents for the purpose of teaching this principle. Both countries were prepared. Both countries had procedures for looking for, and being alert to, terrorists. In our country the plot was uncovered by accident. Our country is generally more positive toward God. In Spain, that leadership is more in tuned to pulling away from trouble in the world and doesn't want to get involved. Wrong application of Bible doctrine.

In this world there is nowhere to hide from international trouble. Will our locusts be terrorists? God only knows. But when a nation is positive then that threat is rendered impotent. When a nation drifts away from God, from principles of freedom, then the threats become ominous.

Three years ago the airline industry was devastated, and that dominoed into many other areas of the economy. If more attacks had occurred, or if we had done nothing about it, then imagine what kind of a life we would all be living now!

In the future, in the Tribulation, we see the many troubles that will exist in that future day. When the Rapture occurs, the world will dive into a quagmire of trouble. The Rapture will not be the cause. It is reasonable to assume that prior to the Rapture, there will be tremendous problems in the world already. The rapture will be the believers relief by leaving the world. Those who remain (the unbelievers) will all be depressed at the news of the rapture. hey will still have to deal with the trouble of the world.

How do we know this, or how can we make this assumption? Because of the details listed in the 'seals' which we have already studied in Revelation. The white horse, red horse, black horse, and pale horse all represent the results of Satan's failed attempt to resolve the worlds problems. The white horse was, you recall, the false savior, the anti-christ who will come along with the promises of a politician to solve all of mans problems.

If the problems were due to the result of the Rapture, then Satan would have a basis for complaint. But no complaint exists. That means that the problems exist in the world prior to the Rapture. The Rapture is merely Gods rescue of those believers in that final generation of the Church Age. The problems continue into the Tribulation where the greater numbers of people will continue to resist God for seven more years - to their detriment.

We can avoid the difficulties that accompany disasters by being prepared, by knowing that history 'must' happen. Disasters will come along and they will at times be ominous. And when things just overwhelm us, then we fall back on faith and allow God to provide a way out of our predicament. He will sooner or later. Faith then becomes your (the positive believers) ultimate security.

End of lesson.

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
