Joel 2:11

Lesson # Joel 2:11
Study Material - Joel 2:11

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Joel 2:11

11 And the LORD [Yahovah] shall utter [nathan] his voice [qowl] before [paniym] his army [chayil] : for his camp [machaneh] is very [ma`od] great [rab] : for he is strong [atsuwm] that executeth [asah] his word [dabar] : for the day [yowm] of the LORD [Yahovah] is great [gadowl] and very [ma`od] terrible [yare] ; and who can abide [kuwl] it? KJV-Interlinear

11 And the LORD utters His voice before His army; Surely His camp is very great, For strong is he who carries out His word. The day of the LORD is indeed great and very awesome, And who can endure it? NASB

There are three members of the Trinity (Father, Son, and Spirit). The Father authored the divine plan in eternity past. We call that plan the Divine Decrees. The Son executes that plan, and the Spirit reveals and sustains the plan.

The Son, the second person of the Trinity, Jesus Christ, controls history by virtue of His execution of the divine plan. The Father controls history in that He selected the course of history which was to be put into place. The Holy Spirit reveals all the consistency and continuity of these actions.

God controls history in three ways - directly, indirectly, and permissively. God controls history directly through the power of His essence. He is omnipotent, omniscient, and so forth. God created the universe with the power of His will. He can think or speak and things happen.

He controls history indirectly through the laws of divine establishment through the actions of humanity. Law and order, authority, marriage, nationalism, principles of right and wrong forming the norms and standards of society. These things serve to preserve and guide human history. The principles of establishment serve to offset the rules of the jungle. The jungle being that environment which rejects Gods establishment principles.

He controls history through permitting mankind to make his own decisions - through mans volition. Man can decide for God or against God. Man can decide to follow principles of establishment or pursue criminals activities, deceitful activities, or even make up his own rules for society. All those decisions come with repercussions. When mankind turns his back on God, then God can politely turn His restraining power off and in effect can turn His back on man.

Here in our passage we have the ultimate negative volition by mankind toward God. The nation was so negative, that God let loose the little things (the locusts) in order to humble mankind. Teaching man that he (man) is incapable of controlling anything, and therefore is incapable of helping himself. Man either learns or does not learn from the experience.

Lest anyone might boast that they can get along in life without God.

God can humble anyone with the very simplest of things in life. Only fools will consider that they have the power of beating God at His game.

Here we see the ultimate explanation of Gods army. It is made up of locusts. Simple in form but powerful in their numbers. They are unstoppable. Only if one can stop the sun from shining, only if one can stop or even change the laws of the universe, then one could beat God. But who among us can do that? No one.

Before us, we have the ultimate challenge to understand life or to ignore the truth of life. We can go along with our ideas of getting better as a human being through advancements in technology. We can concentrate on our education, our social life, our career, our plans for that new home, that new car, that new toy, that hobby, that 'whatever' that you focus your life on.

You can ignore God in your life and pretend that just by being good you'll get into heaven, and just by getting into heaven that you will be at the top of the human class for blessings. And you can pretend that you know enough to get you through life comfortably.

Or you can consider that a little investigation might be in order, in order that you do not make the biggest mistake of your life. Once you die, then your options shut down. And none of us really knows when our last minute on this earth will be.

Our soul life continues forever. That amounts to billions of trillions of gazillions of years. Our life here on this earth is maybe 40 or 60 or 80 years give or take. Considerably less when compared to eternity. So if we concentrate on this life and ignore our preparation for the next one, would that be the smart thing to do?

When we are in school (high school, college). If we concentrated on our party life and ignored our education which was to prepare us for our life after school, then would we be prepared? No. No degree, no career. Take a shovel and dig your way through life. Not a good choice if you are given all the tools for a professional career.

So we in this life are given all the tools for a professional career in heaven. But more than that, we are given all the opportunities to prepare ourselves for the life of royalty, for the life of tremendous blessing, for tremendous awards and privileges which will go only to those who graduate from this life with that spiritual degree which we call spiritual maturity.

In this life you have to compete for the top honors in class or at work. But in heaven, there is room at the top for everyone to have top honors. All you have to do is study, learn, retain what you learn, and apply what you learn to your daily life. In effect you only do that which you should be doing anyway, only doing it from within the power of your fellowship status.

We learn quickly that it is God who does all of the work, we just learn and comply with what we have been taught. Very simple actually. Just like being saved. All you have to do it believe in Christ. That takes maybe a second or two to think six little words, 'Father I believe in Jesus Christ.' Not difficult at all. But how many will resist even that little thought?

Likewise the spiritual life is simply complying, daily, with Gods will. Doing that which you should do for yourself and for others. God provides all the resources for you to function in life and for you to comply with His commands. Yet too, how many will be greedy, self centered, and negative toward God and will ignore their daily study and their obligations in life?

Ignoring an obligation will not make it go away. When the time comes, you'll look back on your life and wish that you had been more cooperative and more attentive to what God expects of you. But by then it might be too late.

There are two certainties in life. Death, and the repercussions to your decisions during life. Those repercussions being Gods judgment or blessing whichever is appropriate.

We do not study our Bibles for a weekend or two. We do not study our Bibles for only those things that interest us. We do not study our Bibles for a year or two. We do not read it once through and then decide that we know it all. These things are for those folks who are not really interested in the Bible.

Our Bible study perseveres throughout our life - all of our life - everyday of our life. And even then we will not learn all that the Bible has to offer us. As the universe is vast, so too is Gods Word.

It is far better to stand along side God when the ultimate battle comes, rather than standing in front of a charging army whom He has commissioned to rip us apart.

End of lesson.

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
