Joel 2:28-29

Lesson # Joel 2:28-29
Study Material - Joel 2:28-29

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Joel 2:28-29

28 And it shall come to pass afterward [achar] , that I will pour out [shaphak] my spirit [ruwach] upon all flesh [basar] ; and your sons [ben] and your daughters [bath] shall prophesy [naba] , your old men [zaqen] shall dream [chalam] dreams [chalowm] , your young men [bachuwr] shall see [ra'ah] visions [chizzayown] :
29 And also upon the servants [ebed] and upon the handmaids [shiphchah] in those days [yowm] will I pour out [shaphak] my spirit [ruwach] . KJV-Interlinear

28 'And it will come about after this That I will pour out My Spirit on all mankind; And your sons and daughters will prophesy, Your old men will dream dreams, Your young men will see visions. 29 'And even on the male and female servants I will pour out My Spirit in those days. NASB

Thus far we have seen the negative attitude of society, the warnings from God, the disregard of those warnings, the invasion of the locusts, the repentance of the people, Gods defeat of the invading locusts, and the prosperity restored as a result of the repentance of the people.

The people always refers to believers or those people of God, but it will include unbelievers who have now believed and of course are no longer unbelievers in the Savior (Jesus Christ), as well as believers who prior to the invasion went negative toward God, but now have turned their attentions back toward God and their spiritual growth.

In Joel 1 we also noted that this situation, is like no other throughout history. No one alive (from the older generation) can recall anything like it, and no one from their history studies can find any recorded event like it. This locust invasion then is an illustrative example for the teaching of the Day of the Lord, which will not occur until the Second Advent.

Now we have a reference to 'in those days' as we are getting closer to the exact timing of the prophecy of the Day of the Lord of which Joel is speaking, and using the locust invasion as his teaching aid.

Every generation has its example of what that day will be like. You might be caught up in a tornado, or a violent flood, or hurricane, or even an earthquake. You might even be caught up in an accident of some kind or see someone who has been in an accident and hurt badly. Or you may have been caught up in a bad marriage which ends badly, or you might have a medical problem, perhaps even since birth. No matter what the event or circumstance there is always an example of what life can potentially be like when God is rejected. You are in a hopeless and helpless situation. Totally surrounded and inundated by your circumstances. This demonstrates mans inability to help himself, thus the need for God in ones life.

But, there is always a light at the end of that tunnel. Here we see a phenomenal event which will not occur until after the Second Advent of Christ.

The horrible invasion of Gods enemy has been completed, God has returned and has destroyed the enemy completely. This all occurs at the end of the Tribulation, and marks the beginning of the Millennium.

In that day, 'after this', after all these things have taken place and now we are at the beginning of the Millennium, then there will be a 'pouring out,' which signifies communication in rich abundance, of the Spirit of God. It will be like no other pouring out of the Holy Spirit prior to this in history.

Now a little history. From Adams time, up to the Cross, actually up to the first Pentecost following the Cross, there was no indwelling of the Holy Spirit in anyone - zip. There was however, the indument power of the Spirit which was placed on certain individuals from time to time. It was temporary, never permanent. Moses experienced it, and even wished it for everyone, Num. 11:29.

David experienced it, the prophets experienced it, but the general population did not. The indument of the Holy Spirit gave those individuals certain enhancements in powers or abilities they already possessed. For example Samson was strong, but the Spirit gave him great super human strength, Jud. 13-16, when the Spirit came upon him.

Then after the Cross, at the first Pentecost Feast, Jesus gave the apostles the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, and that set the precedent for all believers during this Church Age (our current dispensation). Accompanying the indwelling of the Holy Spirit was no, repeat no, physical or emotional sensation. When you believe in Christ, simultaneously with your belief, the Holy Spirit indwells you. Actually you are indwelled by all three members of the Trinity, but we are only discussing the Holy Spirit at the moment. See the Blessings list on the Index page on the web site, for a very long list of blessings which you have and of which you received when you believed in Christ. None of which came to you through some emotional or other overt experience.

It was only during the recent century (the early 1900's) when some folks decided to invent the holy roller getting the spirit emotional thing. But that is all Hollywood and phony and not a part of the spiritual life. Don't be fooled or taken in by it.

But here we see that in those latter days, 'after these things,' after the real Day of the Lord, the second advent, then there will be a big change in the emotional and physical experience of having the Holy Spirits indwelling. At that time, then emotion and other sensations more powerful than any other physical sensation than you could imagine, will enter into the human experience.

The pouring out means a tremendous abundance of this pouring out of the Spirit on mankind. Further, it will not be limited to a specific few, but will be available to all people (believers). Remember that at the beginning of the Millennium, there will only be believers living on planet earth. Christ at the Second Advent will have removed via death, all unbelievers. So everyone on the planet will be believers in Christ, and therefore everyone will have this experience. The young, the old, the employers (future employers) and the worker bees of the Millennium. Everyone.

This pouring out will enhance the spiritual experience of everyone. Everyone will prophecy. Here prophecy means the communication of the Word of God. All will have an extensive knowledge and understanding of Gods Wisdom.

In the past dispensation, the Age of Israel and even prior, certain men only, had visions and dreams - revelations or communications from God. But in the Millennium, the gender, and age requirement will be abolished. Everyone will have the privilege of having visions and dreams, or spiritual communications from God. The link with God will be phenomenal.

When the Bible was completed with the completion of the Book of Revelation, the dreams and visions ceased. Our dispensation has the written word, and that alone is our communication with God. We read, we hear the spoken word, and we learn through that academic style of teaching. If anyone tells you he/she has been talking to God and heard Him talking back to them and so forth, then get their medication for them.

This passage then is an explanation of the tremendous physical enhancement in the spiritual experience, but it only applies to those days, following the Second Advent of Christ. It does not apply to our current day or any other period in history before us. This will be another of a list of great blessings and encouragement's that those Tribulational believers will have to look forward to, while they endure the destruction of the Tribulation.

End of lesson.

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
