Joel 3:18

Lesson # Joel 3:18
Study Material - Joel 3:18

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Joel 3:18

18 And it shall come to pass in that day [yowm] , that the mountains [har] shall drop down [nataph] new wine [aciyc] , and the hills [gib`ah] shall flow [yalak] with milk [chalab] , and all the rivers [aphiyq] of Judah [Yahuwdah] shall flow [yalak] with waters [mayim] , and a fountain [ma`yan] shall come forth [yatsa] of the house [bayith] of the LORD [Yahovah] , and shall water [shaqah] the valley [nachal] of Shittim [Shittiym] . KJV-Interlinear

18 And it will come about in that day That the mountains will drip with sweet wine, And the hills will flow with milk, And all the brooks of Judah will flow with water; And a spring will go out from the house of the LORD, To water the valley of Shittim. NASB

In heaven there are only friends and family. Strangers do not exist. Any stranger is likened to an unbeliever who has rejected the life style of heaven. Strangers (we call them unbelievers in our day) choose to live in places other than under Gods influence and control. Judah is a place which God calls His own. It is an illustration of the chosen land or residence of God.

Edom (from Esau - the rejected brother of Jacob), on the other hand is not in Judah, but is used here as an example of a foreign and rejected land of residence. It is outside of Gods influence and control. All places which are outside of Gods will, have but one destiny and state, and that is destruction and desolation.

I suppose you could look to many of the third world countries in our current day. They have rejected God (Jesus Christ) and all you can see in them is a very primitive and desolate state of condition. They do not have even the basic modernized conveniences that we take for granted (power, water, good roads and buildings). Their economies are substandard and overall day to day life there is not pleasant.

But that is the difference between a people who subscribe to the Christian beliefs vs. people and their living conditions, when God is rejected and other religions are embraced.

In Gods environment, there are mountains of prosperity (sweet wine), with many excesses of prosperity. The economies and life styles flow with volumes of good things that cannot even be measured. Jacob chose the path which followed the Word of God while Esau chose the path which pursued the sensuality's of the world. Recall he traded his spiritual inheritance (something of infinite value) for a single meal (something of very little value and when consumed is no more).

They (Gods blessings) will water the valley of Shittim (Sattein), meaning 'the acacias.' And what does that mean, you ask? And that is exactly the response this passage anticipates. If you know the meaning then you need not ask, but you can remember it, but if you do not know the meaning, then inquiring minds will ask. In other words, all who will live through the Day of the Lord will be believers, and positive believers at that. Some will know tremendous amounts of doctrine, and others will be learning. Everyone will be positive. Those who know and continue to remember Gods Word, and those who do not know but pursue their knowledge in Gods Word will come out winners in life.

Shittim was the last camping ground of Israel before they crossed the Jordan to begin the conquest of the Promised Land. It was here also, that the people fell into the snare set for them by the satanic counsel of Balaam, which brought on them greater evil than all his other curses, Num.. 25+.

It was from Shittim that Joshua sent the spies to view out the land, Josh 2.. And it was from this point that the nation advanced forward to the Jordan in preparation for their crossing, Josh 3.

The place is recalled by Micah, 'remember what I did' with reference to the Balaam episode, as well as the display of divine power in arresting the flow of the flooding Jordan river until the entire nation had safely crossed over.

Now the delivered peoples, have been through the most terrible time in history - the Tribulation culminating with the Day of the Lord. This then is a call to remembrance, and if you don't recall the events, then you should want to make inquiry of these days and the result of Gods intervention into human history. Mankind begets evil and God has to come along to rescue man from himself.

We all have three obligations expected of us by God. The first and foremost is that we should want to know the truth regarding life, our life, where we came from, where we are destined for, and how we can make the best for our lives. The first obligation then is to be interested in God and to give Him a hearing - listen to what He has to say.

The results for our life are beyond valuation, beyond counting, beyond anything we could use in this world to measure them. The first question regards Christ - believe in Him or not? The results of that decision means you will either go to heaven or to hell. There is a huge difference between the two, an infinite difference between them. Believe in Christ and go to heaven is the correct and smart decision.

The second question for your life is, what do you think of Gods Word, or what do you think of your spiritual life? This is a series of daily decisions which will continue throughout your entire life. You either want to maximize your spiritual life or you don't.

In order to make the most of your existence, you must want to learn Gods Word, you must want to listen, and want to understand, and consequently use His Word in your daily life to grow up spiritually. Eventually if you follow this circle of wisdom (see our study in Rev. 1 and Isa. 11 - the seven spirits), then you will advance to spiritual maturity. The difference between maturity and infancy? Very similar to our physical infancy and maturity. As an infant you can do very little, enjoy very little, comprehend very little in life. All the best that life has to offer needs to be done while an adult.

Likewise, a spiritual infant will receive none of the 'beyond' blessings of eternity, that the spiritually mature person will receive, Rev. 1-3, and from the perspective of this life (here on earth), the mature person will enjoy life far more than does the immature person. The immature person will live from one cycle of discipline to the next, while the mature person will live to experience one blessing after the next.

So 'recall' is the key command here. In those future days, it is the Lord who will lead people over from the Tribulation into the Millennium. Likewise in our current day, it is the Lord who will lead you in your life from whatever your time of desperation might be, into prosperity. Recall, and remember, and keep your focus on your spiritual studies throughout your life. And if you do not know something, then persist (with a passion) in the study of the Word of God, and God will teach you all you need to know, sooner or later.

End of lesson.

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
