Joshua Introduction and Outline

Lesson # Joshua Introduction, Outline
Study Material - Joshua, book introduction and outline

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Joshua Introduction

This begins the history of the nation of Israel. It also records the military campaigns led by Joshua in the conquest of the land and the eventual division of the land between the tribes. Joshua along with Caleb were the two spies who brought back the good report to attack and take the land while the ten spies brought back tails of terror, of giants, of the impossibility of taking the land.

Joshua was given the reigns to the nation by Moses, and succeeded Moses as commander of Israel, or so he thought. He would soon learn that Jesus Christ was the sole commander and chief of the nation, not Joshua, and that Joshua was second in command by the grace of God only.

The books from Joshua to Esther will compile the history of the nation, from its crossing over of the Jordan River, through the period of the judges, and kings. The successes will be revealed as the nation follows Gods will and commands. The failures will also be revealed as the people ignore Gods will and commands.

In the first five books of the Bible, we have the full account of the rise, advance, and constitution, of the Old-Testament church, the family out of which it was raised, the promise, that great charter by which it was incorporated, the miracles by which it was built up, and the laws and ordinances by which it was to be governed. The law made nothing perfect, but this was necessary for the bringing in of the better hope.

And with the giving of Gods commands now in place, now comes the application of those commands to daily living. Though this has been the case throughout history, from Adam until even now, these books of the Bible paint the picture of life for us step by step presenting the rule and its application to life.

The following outline follows the crossing over into the land, its conquest, and the division of the spoils. This is historical for the nation of Israel in that time of history, but we too have our crossing over into doctrine and advancement to spiritual maturity, our personal conquest in life of doctrine over the world, and eventually, in eternity, the receipt of our portion of the spoils, our inheritance of the universe and the new one at that.
