Leviticus 1:1-2

Lesson # Leviticus 1:1-2
Study Material - Leviticus 1:1-2

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Lev. 1:1-2

1 And the LORD [Yahovah] called [qara] unto Moses [Mosheh] , and spake [dabar] unto him out of the tabernacle [ohel] of the congregation [mow`ed] , saying [amar] ,
2 Speak [dabar] unto the children [ben] of Israel [Yisra'el] , and say [amar] unto them, If any man [adam] of you bring [qarab] an offering [qorban] unto the LORD [Yahovah] , ye shall bring [qarab] your offering [qorban] of the cattle [bahemah] , even of the herd [baqar] , and of the flock [tso'n] . KJV-Interlinear

1 Then the LORD called to Moses and spoke to him from the tent of meeting, saying, 2 'Speak to the sons of Israel and say to them, 'When any man of you brings an offering to the LORD, you shall bring your offering of animals from the herd or the flock. NASB

In these first five chapters of Leviticus are presented the five fundamental offerings (sacrifices if you will) which are authorized by God. These five offerings are not new. They have been used since the beginning of time dating back to Adam.

Moses is now directed to document them more for our benefit and for the generations which follow Moses, so that people will have a specific guide to follow and will know exactly how to make offerings to God and in the correct manner as prescribed by God.

Provision is therefore made here in this book of Leviticus, that men should not indulge in their own fancies, nor become vain in their imaginations and inventions about their sacrifices, otherwise, while they pretended to honor God, they are really dishonoring Him.

Man cannot go his own way. Cain was rejected because he first rejected Gods sacrifice rules. Cain attempted to appease God by inventing his own rules, and thereby superimposing his own devices into Gods plan.

God rejects mans efforts to 'water' down His divine plan. Man would if allowed, try to make all things relative with respect to religion. Man would make God a convenience for mans whims, to be used only when necessary. This is of course contrary to reality. Only the fool thinks he has control over his entire life apart from God. Those who reject God really are embracing their sin natures, subordinating themselves to the rule of that sin nature and without really understanding the nature of their sin nature, not understanding the extent of its repressive control over them. This is the blindness of man. Or of anyone who rejects God.

The first sacrifice speaks of the work of Christ on the Cross, in His voluntary offering of Himself without spot or blemish, who was made sin, and judged for us.

The second offering in chapter 2, represents the impeccability of Christ, which qualified him to go to the Cross.

The third offering in chapter 3, represents the outer and inner perfection of Christ also qualifying Him for the Cross, the superabundance of His glory, and that He offered the best possible for us.

The fourth offering chapter 4, is a fellowship offering representing that Christ was made sin for us with emphasis on unknown sins in our life, and the necessity of cleansing ourselves from all unrighteousness.

The fifth offering in chapter 5, is the last of the offerings and is a fellowship offering as well, with emphasis on the known sins in our life demonstrating that cursing can be turned into blessing when we are in compliance with Gods commands.

Thus the first three offerings are salvation offerings and the last two are fellowship offerings. These all cover the necessary requirements for every person to become saved first, and then the requirement to live inside Gods will (which we call fellowship) second, throughout their spiritual life.

Apart from the concepts that these offerings teach, there is no future for any human being. Note that these offerings are teaching aids. They are intended to be used for that purpose - for teaching the concepts of Bible doctrine. The sacrifices do not save, they do not advance anyone in their spiritual life. Salvation is by faith in Jesus Christ, by believing in Jesus Christ, and that will never change. By faith Adam... By faith Abraham... By faith Moses... By faith you and I are saved.

Likewise spiritual advancement occurs while in fellowship, while in a state of cleansing. We cannot approach God while dirty, we must first be cleaned. Wash your hands... Remove thy shoes... Be cleansed for you stand on Holy ground. In fellowship you are sin free and in the presence of God. He will not receive you in a filthy condition.

The rules come from God. The Lord called to Moses. God issued these rules for our benefit, and so that we would not come up with our own rules, rules which would be arbitrary and would certainly change from generation to generation and from geographical area to geographical area.

Obviously, look at our human history. Sacrifices have taken on lots of kinds of ritual acts of atrocity, from the offering of animals to humans, from the offering of children to the offering of virgins, from the offering of enemies captured in battle to the offering of folks that the leadership just decided that they didn't like.

Sacrifices existed in cultures throughout the world. The peoples of their respective local areas did not come up with the idea of sacrifices on their own, but learned of them from previous generations as the concept was handed down from Adam to every generation and was retained as people traveled throughout the world. As people drifted away from God and the scriptures, so their sacrifices became distorted.

The scriptures were also available in verbal form, from parent to child, to every generation. Adam learned from Christ, and taught his own children. Down to Abraham and to Moses, there was very little recorded scripture. Moses learned from his parents and the Israelites in general, but so did this knowledge exist in every culture, all over the world. It was just that some cultures tended to distort truth and drift away from God and doctrine because they were negative. Even in the very early generations of the human race, there was no excuse for not knowing of God and His Word, to the extent that it was available in those ancient times.

Now back to the sacrifices. The sacrifice must come from the herd or flock. Certainly if you are well to do, you must bring the best of the best from your herd. We do not save the best for ourselves, but must give it up to God to demonstrate that we are depending on Him and not on the things of this world. The offering is a young bull, perfect in every way. The Levite's make this offering every morning and every evening, so that Bible doctrine is always before us.

Thus the requirement of our daily study. This sacrifice is a daily activity. Our study is a daily study. In life we are exposed to two opinions - that from the world and that from God. Our soul will take in whatever is presented to us. If we ignore God then we are in effect bombarded, brainwashed, saturated with the opinions of this world. Only Bible doctrine can counter this information and open your eyes to the truth of life and the lies of false doctrines from the world.

God provided the herd and the flock. He provides all that we have. To covet anything in this world is to misdirect your priorities and to demonstrate your lack of understanding of the source of everything in life. This also teaches charity and the restraint of ones selfishness. God did not withhold His only Son for our benefit. We should not withhold from our prosperity that support which is necessary to teach Gods Word. In this respect we all have an obligation to support the teaching of the Word of God.
