Leviticus 4:4-7

Lesson # Leviticus 4:4-7
Study Material - Leviticus 4:4-7

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Lev. 4:4-7

4 'And he shall bring the bull to the doorway of the tent of meeting before the LORD, and he shall lay his hand on the head of the bull, and slay the bull before the LORD. 5 'Then the anointed priest is to take some of the blood of the bull and bring it to the tent of meeting, 6 and the priest shall dip his finger in the blood, and sprinkle some of the blood seven times before the LORD, in front of the veil of the sanctuary. 7 'The priest shall also put some of the blood on the horns of the altar of fragrant incense which is before the LORD in the tent of meeting; and all the blood of the bull he shall pour out at the base of the altar of burnt offering which is at the doorway of the tent of meeting.

For these lessons you should go to the Index page and select the Tabernacle image under the Images category, and print it off for reference as you read these study lessons. The orientation of everything in and around the Tabernacle is important to understand the meanings and actions of the priests and various offerer's of these sacrifices.

The priest first leads the bull into the outer court where the brazen alter is located. Behind it is the brazen laver, then the tabernacle. The tabernacle representing fellowship with God. The brazen alter representing the eternal fellowship with God due to the perfect work and person of Christ on the Cross. The brazen laver representing the temporal fellowship available to believers as a result of Christ's accomplished work.

The priest laid his hand on the head of the bull to identify with the transfer of sins to the bull, the sacrificial animal. Then killing the bull in the same fashion we studied in the first chapter of Leviticus. The blood is captured in a bowl, and here is the deviation of this offering from the previous offerings. Instead of sprinkling the blood all around the alter, the priest carries the blood past the laver representing the temporal fellowship now available to believers due to the spiritual death (the blood being carried) of Christ on the Cross (the alter), and then into the tabernacle.

The golden lampstand on the left representing the light of the world, Jesus Christ, and the table of shewbread, the bread of life (bible doctrine). Then past the alter of incense (Christ's intercession and advocacy for our benefit), and to the veil or curtain which separated the two rooms inside the tabernacle. The priest had to stop there and could go no further.

The priests presence in the outer room of the tabernacle represents fellowship with God in time. Our presence in the inner room, the Holy of Holies, represents fellowship with God in eternity.

The finger is dipped into the blood, the work of Christ, and sprinkled toward the veil seven times. Seven indicates perfection, or completeness, and this ritual indicates the acceptance of Gods perfect and complete plan. The placement of the blood on the horns on the alter of incense, signifies the power (the horns) or prayer (the incense). Christ in heaven makes intercession and makes advocation in our behalf. On earth we as believers offer prayers from a position of fellowship. Note that the prayer alter is inside the tabernacle, not outside. All prayer must be offered while the believer is resident inside the tabernacle, in fellowship. All prayer is offered through Christ. All prayer must be offered by believers. Prayer does not work is there is sin in the life of the believer (out of fellowship), Psa. 66:18. The sequence of the tabernacle layout is not accidental. The court is the plan of God. Everything outside of the court of the tabernacle is outside the plan of God. The brazen alter is the first step toward restoring a relationship with God - propitiation, reconciliation, expiation.

The remainder of the blood is taken back out to the alter in the court and poured at the baser of the brazen alter. The work of Christ is the basis and the foundation on which our relationship with God is formed. There is no other source, no other means by which we can be saved, nor any other means by which we can have a spiritual relationship with God.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
