Leviticus 4:13-14

Lesson # Leviticus 4:13-14
Study Material - Leviticus 4:13-14

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Lev. 4:13-14

13 'Now if the whole congregation of Israel commits error, and the matter escapes the notice of the assembly, and they commit any of the things which the LORD has commanded not to be done, and they become guilty; 14 when the sin which they have committed becomes known, then the assembly shall offer a bull of the herd for a sin offering, and bring it before the tent of meeting.

There are sins for individuals and a mandatory offering for those sins which we will get to in verse 22. There are sins for the spiritual leadership of the general population, which we have reviewed in the first dozen verses of this chapter. Now we see the sins of the general population, of the nation.

In history God judges peoples by categories. Those who have positions of authority, received those positions from God. No person in history ever had a high position which they acquired by their own efforts. Obviously many high ranking people probably think that they earned their positions either from their 'superior' intellect' or by means of 'knowing' the right people, or simply being born into the right family or money. These conclusions couldn't be further from the truth.

God promotes, God demotes. God places people, whom He sees fit, into positions that will promote His plan in man's history. He expects responsibility from those people and accountability, but as we know, history has demonstrated many leaders of nations, many leaders of religions, who have distorted their powers, have abused their positions, have been irresponsible toward the citizens of their respective countries, congregations, or organizations whatever they may be. There is a special level of discipline for these any and all people who have been given positions of authority. Likewise there is a special confession for those to emphasize their responsibility to God, for their responsibility to maintain their lives in accordance with Gods will - in fellowship.

Now we see the responsibilities of the nation. A nation can sin collectively. When Bible study is lacking in a nation, then the peoples, though they sin individually, begin to build a national sin, that if it continues unchecked, will eventually end in their national demise. Therefore there needs to be a continual monitoring of the nations spiritual needs by the leadership of that nation or organization. If the priests fail, then the responsibility of spiritual needs falls on the leadership of the nation. If the leadership fails, then the responsibility of spiritual needs falls on the individual.

'If the whole congregation of Israel sins...'. There is a responsibility of the priesthood to monitor the spiritual temperature of the nation. When a national error shows itself, then they must offer a sacrifice to God for relief of this error or errors.

The need is great for Gods forgiveness (verse 20) because the nations existence depends on its collective spiritual status. No nation is exempt from God discipline or judgment as it were.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
