Leviticus 5:11-13

Lesson # Leviticus 5:11-13
Study Material - Leviticus 5:11-13

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Lev. 5:11-13

11 'But if his means are insufficient for two turtledoves or two young pigeons, then for his offering for that which he has sinned, he shall bring the tenth of an ephah of fine flour for a sin offering; he shall not put oil on it or place incense on it, for it is a sin offering. 12 'And he shall bring it to the priest, and the priest shall take his handful of it as its memorial portion and offer it up in smoke on the altar, with the offerings of the LORD by fire: it is a sin offering. 13 'So the priest shall make atonement for him concerning his sin which he has committed from one of these, and it shall be forgiven him; then the rest shall become the priest's, like the grain offering.'

If the person was so destitute, or perhaps handicapped, that he could not gain access to the doves or pigeons, then flour was authorized for the known sin offering. Note that in this offering the oil and incense were not to be included.

This is a sin offering. Oil represents the anointing or appointment by God, and God has nothing to do with sin. The incense represents the satisfaction which God takes in a thing, but God has nothing to do with sin, therefore all sin is rejected with respect to the work of God on the Cross. Sin was in fact judged and punished to the full extent of Gods justice.

The priest took the portion and offered it as a burnt offering in the same manner as in chapter 2, and the remainder of the flour was reserved for the priest to eat, representing communion or fellowship. Again this is done as a memorial, a remembrance, 'this I recall', 'this do in remembrance of me'.

Bible doctrine is to be learned, stored in your little brain cells, and then recalled for use in your daily life. Note, you cannot recall that which you know nothing about. You have to learn a subject first before you can recall it. And in order to learn, you have to be involved in some type of program of study. Now whether this is in a local church, in a borrowed school room, or curled up with your very own favorite pillow, the location makes no difference. What does matter is that you discipline yourself enough to have a Bible study every day. That you organize your thoughts continually to recognize your spiritual status from moment to moment and keep yourself in fellowship. That from this position of strength (fellowship) and consistency (Daily Bible study), that you learn and grow up spiritually gaining capacity for life and for blessing. This is your objective in life. Everything else in life must take a second seat to your Bible study. And, of course, your Bible study does not need to occupy all of your time everyday. You will learn to organize your time and maintain the responsibilities that fall on you from self, family, work, etc.

We did not repeat the details of the sacrifices in these last few verses, as they have been already gone over in the previous studies of the first 4 chapters of Leviticus. What you need to realize is that the words 'amar' and 'dabar' were repeated throughout. 'The Lord spoke, 'dabar' to Moses...', and 'speak 'amar' to the people.

God spoke to Moses in a categorical manner, teaching Moses in an organized fashion in order to teach Moses, such that Moses in turn could speak to the people. Speak in a categorical fashion, to teach, to bring to light, to inculcate those who would listen and learn.

This was not a once in a life time lesson, but a repeated lesson. People learned by repetition. The offering rituals were teaching aids. The offerings never once saved anyone, never once entered anyone into fellowship with God. But they taught the principles of doctrine. From the position and placement of the articles in the tabernacle, from the various aspects of the individual sacrifices - the animal used, the portrayals of the various parts of the animal, and so forth, then people would learn from the priest as the priest taught pertinent doctrines, as he went through the individual sacrifices.

The next few verses get into the matters of restitution for wrongs against God first and then people wronged. We have really completed our review of the five basic sacrifices which form the basis or foundation of Bible teaching as it was known in Moses' time and as it applies to our current time. From these notes then you should be able to understand the meanings of other passages that refer to the ritual formats and patterns.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
