Obadiah 1:15-16

15 For the day [yowm] of the LORD [Yahovah] is near [qarowb] upon all the heathen [gowy]: as thou hast done [asah], it shall be done [asah] unto thee: thy reward [gamuwl] shall return [shuwb] upon thine own head [ro'sh].
16 For as ye have drunk [shathah] upon my holy [qodesh] mountain [har], so shall all the heathen [gowy] drink [shathah] continually [tamiyd], yea, they shall drink [shathah], and they shall swallow down [luwa], and they shall be as though they had not [lo] been. KJV-Interlinear

15 'For the day of the LORD draws near on all the nations. As you have done, it will be done to you. Your dealings will return on your own head. 16 'Because just as you drank on My holy mountain, All the nations will drink continually. They will drink and swallow, And become as if they had never existed. NASB

The Day of the Lord is when He will bring things under His rule. He can do this at anytime and frequently does in history in order to bring order back from the chaos that mankind causes. But more frequently, the Day of the Lord refers to the judgment that will occur at the Second Advent, when Christ will return and in that moment He will thoroughly destroy all of the nations who have literally gone berserk.

The humiliation of Edom described in the day of Obadiah will foreshadow the events that will occur at the end of the Tribulation. Edom will be thoroughly destroyed, but there will be some survivors, either from the Edomite race or from others who will eventually move into the region which is in today's southern Jordan. Along the border of Israel.

In that future day (the Tribulation), no one (evil peoples) will be left alive in the region of Edom.

In addition, the nations of the world will fall into the same category of judgment as Edom. All will be thoroughly destroyed such that there will be no evidence of their prior existence.

From other studies we know that the mountains will all collapse and disappear. All islands will sink away into the oceans. More current events in our current day indicate the probable destiny of our own western hemisphere.

We all know of the giant faults that lie below the earth surface along the California coast, but this fault line runs from the southern tip of South America, all the way to Canada. The pacific coast will disappear into the sea along with the bulk of the population of the two respective continents.

Likewise the east coast is at risk from newly discovered volcanoes across the ocean (in the Canary islands) where huge landslides will cause giant tsunami's hundreds of feet high and will destroy the Atlantic coast from New York to the far south of South America.

Now we know of the super volcano under Yellow Stone Park (if you have seen some of the specials lately). When that goes, then the whole of North America will be destroyed along with South America. Nothing in life or in history is here by accident. These things are here for some reason.

Most folks have speculated about the role of the USA in the Tribulation and I (personal opinion) think that the USA won't play much of a role if any in that last seven year period. I think that the Rapture will take out a huge portion of our hemisphere's population and the disasters which will follow will take out everyone else.

The prophecies have always implied European, Russian, Chinese, Arab participants (west, north, south, and eastern powers relative to Jerusalem), and our hemisphere has most of its history after the Cross, in the Church Age, rather than in the Age of Israel.

Even Australia will probably see its demise from the growing slide material accumulating in Hawaii which will bring a huge tsunami toward it - again speculation. But the threat is there and again nothing happens by accident, nor is anything in history, nor is anything on this planet here for no reason. Everything is here for something. It could very well be that these threats are here for the sole event of the Second Advent or for events of judgment prior to it, in the Tribulation.

Anyway, Edom will be punished for its mistreatment of Judah. She looted Jerusalem, took advantage of the Judeans, killed the fugitives who came to her for protection. She turned over captives to the enemies of Jerusalem. She ridiculed Judah. She boasted and rejoiced in the suffering of Jerusalem and so forth. Edom, though it is a reference to the nation and the geographical area, is a collection of peoples. People who had bad attitudes. People who rejected God and His Word.

Their rejection of God, the Savior, and the scriptures caused their attitude to be evil. And, for that reason alone they will be judged, but negative people will not stop at simply being indifferent to God, they have to push hard against all believers in general and all people in the world, because of their greed and pride.

Their sin nature is driven by greed and arrogance which in turn drives their wickedness, and causes suffering to others. For this reason they have to be stopped. And, God will finally bring the history of the human race, and particularly the nations who reject Him, to a screeching halt.

When Christ is finished, the evidence will be zip with respect to the existence of the nations around the world. All of the big buildings, all of the bridges, all of the infrastructure, all that man has constructed will vanish. Nothing will be left except the debris on the battle field surrounding Jerusalem. And that will take several months to bury the dead and years to clear up the debris.

Ezek. 39:12
12 'For seven months the house of Israel will be burying them in order to cleanse the land. NASB

And the supplies (probably food and fuel and such) remaining there, will be used for sever years into the Millennium.

Ezek. 39:9

9 'Then those who inhabit the cities of Israel will go out, and make fires with the weapons and burn them, both shields and bucklers, bows and arrows, war clubs and spears and for seven years they will make fires of them. NASB

When the nations cease, then the people in them cease. Their history, their greed, their accumulations will all evaporate into nothing as though they never happened. Historical filler is all they will have been useful for in human history.

If you are not driven to advance in your spiritual life, then this is your destiny and legacy. As an unbeliever, your life will turn bad very quick. As a negative believer, your life will continue into heaven , but you'll have nothing to show for your life - except great embarrassment for your life long stupidity.

By pursuing your spiritual life however, you can define the greatest future for yourself. All you have to do is maintain a daily study and then obey Gods commands throughout your life. Something that anyone can easily do.
