Proverbs 2:16-22

Lesson # Proverbs 2:16-22
Study Material - Proverbs 2:16-22

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Prov. 2:16-22

16 To deliver you from the strange woman, From the adulteress who flatters with her words; 17 That leaves the companion of her youth, And forgets the covenant of her God; 18 For her house sinks down to death, And her tracks lead to the dead; 19 None who go to her return again, Nor do they reach the paths of life. 20 So you will walk in the way of good men, And keep to the paths of the righteous. 21 For the upright will live in the land, And the blameless will remain in it; 22 But the wicked will be cut off from the land, And the treacherous will be uprooted from it.

Sin is like the harlot. The sin nature thinks nothing of the young man, the person tantalized by the appeal of sin. She thinks nothing of him, nor of his welfare. The sin nature flatters each of us, dangling our own lusts and desires in front of our nose. Luring us to our doom, and those who give in to her, go to their doom gladly, closing their eyes voluntarily because the pleasure and gratification of the moment is greater than the promise of the future for the one who has no doctrine in his soul.

The sin nature like the strange women of desire, are not loyal to the person being tempted. Sin leads you down the path, then quickly drops you like a hot rock. Note that sin is not limited to sexual activity, it is anything that is in opposition to God and His Word. Self righteous people are interacting with the harlot of sin in their arrogance, just as murderers and thieves, and gossips interact with it in their own way.

Sin forgets the covenant with God, with truth, and goes its own way, blindly setting its own course to nowhere, yet gladly seeking some fantasy destination which will never arrive. God originated all that was good and in sin, man cheats on God, divorces Him and seeks companionship with the corrupt, wallowing in its filth never realizing that it is really filth that the negative person is living in. In total darkness, a person can never have any orientation to his surroundings and therefore doesn't realize what is in store for him.

The house of the sin nature, which is in all of us, is a house built on sand, with no real foundation. It is a house built for doom and misery. The good times are merely temporary and soon fade just as yesterday and last week have faded in our lives never to return.

All who go to sin, all who follow a life absent of God, lose themselves and never return. Though the opportunity is always there to escape sin and its hold, many fall into its temptation, its easy path and never come back to Bible study, or God.

To avoid this, one has only to study Gods Word and learn and grow spiritually. One has only to be positive to Gods Word and follow His teaching, His instruction, His guidance for our lives. Those who advance in their spiritual lives will live in security. Those who don't care much for Bible study, will live miserable lives.

God in this proverb contrasts the two attitudes in life, for God or against God. You are either in one group or another. But even within the groups there are level of interest. Positive people can be extremely positive which is Gods command, or they can be interested on occasion. If you are interested only on occasion, then you are really in the negative category, and will face discipline and hardships as God hammers you because of your passive attitude. Perhaps some will come around. Nevertheless, those who remain true to their daily study, God is a shield and blessing belongs to them. To those who don't see the big deal concerning God, life will be disastrous.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
