Proverbs 4:20-27

Lesson # Proverbs 4:20-27
Study Material - Proverbs 4:20-27

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Prov. 4:20-27

20 My son, give attention to my words; Incline your ear to my sayings. 21 Do not let them depart from your sight; Keep them in the midst of your heart. 22 For they are life to those who find them, And health to all their whole body. 23 Watch over your heart with all diligence, For from it flow the springs of life. 24 Put away from you a deceitful mouth, And put devious lips far from you. 25 Let your eyes look directly ahead, And let your gaze be fixed straight in front of you. 26 Watch the path of your feet, And all your ways will be established. 27 Do not turn to the right nor to the left; Turn your foot from evil.

Listen to instruction. This proverb reiterates the importance of first having a positive attitude toward truth. Then we need to be teachable and open minded. We need to listen, learn, and gain possession of Gods word within our soul.

And finally stick with doctrine, daily. Keep doctrine ever before you, on your tongue, within sight of your eyes, constantly available within your heart. Remember the two lobes of the soul, the heart and mind are those respective compartments. The heart is the circulating compartment, keeping things moving within. The mind is the final resting place of finished information. Information you possess and command. Information available for your use in your daily life. But if the heart portion goes stagnant, then the doctrine you have learned in the past goes stale as well. And anything stale is useless. Ever try eating stale bread? Yuk!

So the key is to keep the heart functioning. Which means daily study of Bible doctrine. Consistent recall of that which you have learned. Constant alertness of your own life, your thoughts, your actions, your fellowship status. This is keeping doctrine, wisdom ever before you. Watching over your own heart with all diligence. Always checking yourself making sure that you are in fellowship, that you are not getting lazy in your daily study, that you are living within Gods plan for your life, and not living within the sin nature's sphere of power.

Doctrine is your life. It is health to your soul, to your physical being, to your whole body, to your mental being.

Avoid sin at all costs. Don't speak it, don't think it, don't do it. Avoid those persons who obviously practice sin in their lives. Stay away from the bad crowd that is. Now you cannot become a hermit and avoid all of humanity, but you can make smart choices and not participate in things that are obviously illegal, or wrong. Don't become self righteous, or critical of others. Don't become a snob and try to put down others.

Fix your eyes ahead. That is fix your priorities on learning Bible doctrine, and then enjoy life even more from within the context of Gods Word. You don't have to be boring. You don't have to avoid social gatherings, or avoid sports. Quite the contrary you should participate with even more vigor than normal but in a relaxed state of mind. If you play football, you hit harder and run faster. If you cook, you think of how others like their food, not just yourself. If you dig ditches, you make sure you are at the proper grade, and in conformity with plan specs. Everything you do, you do it better, and you do it for God, not people. God promotes you not people. People take credit for your efforts, and promote themselves at your expense. But you shouldn't care. You do your job well, and allow God to promote you, and sooner or later God will launch you far past those who took advantage of you. This is watching the path of your feet, following your daily life, doing all you should do from day to day. Being responsible.

Consequently, all your ways will be 'established'. Doctrine is your foundation. A foundation for life. A stable platform on which you are building your life. The sin nature provides no foundation. It is sinking sand, an unstable surface and subsurface. Anything constructed on it is never finished because it cannot stand. It constantly falls or collapses.

The world and its watered down philosophies, its subtle temptations, its seemingly innocent things, will try to alter your course left or right. It wil try to convince you that it is ok to do little things on your own. Just lead a good life and God will accept you. Wrong. Doctrinal procedures are a rigid set of rules set out by God for us to follow explicitly, and in order to keep us on track. God is not ruthless, and trying just to treat us like puppets. God teaches us so that we can remain out of harms way and benefit to the maximum.

Stay alert every day and keep doctrine in front of you. And keep on keeping it in front of you. You lose nothing. You gain everything.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
