Lesson # Prov. 9:13-18 Study Material - Prov. 9:13-18 You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth. Prov. 9:13-18 13 The woman of folly is boisterous, She is naive, and knows nothing. 14 And she sits at the doorway of her house, On a seat by the high places of the city, 15 Calling to those who pass by, Who are making their paths straight: 16 'Whoever is naive, let him turn in here,' And to him who lacks understanding she says, 17 'Stolen water is sweet; And bread eaten in secret is pleasant.' 18 But he does not know that the dead are there, That her guests are in the depths of Sheol. In contrast to the wisdom presented in the Bible, there is the pseudo wisdom of evil complete with all its subtleties. It is presented here as the 'woman of folly.' The woman is the opposite of the man. Here too is the contrast in the representations we have in the Bible when the feminine and the masculine are presented. There is the obvious - masculine vs. feminine, aggressive vs. passive, the bold vs. the seductive. Wisdom takes charge, is bold, honest, open and invites all to its realm. Folly is the opposite. She sits at the door of her home in shadows, waiting opportunity to pounce on some unsuspecting person - the ignorant (those who are naive, who lack understanding). Folly presents its pleasures, all the visual or sensual things of the world. Here in using sensual I mean that which can be detected by the five senses. This of course includes lusts of various types including sex, wealth, and so forth, but it also includes things like IQ, logic, various forms of self righteousness. People who are educated and think that God is a childrens story, or something other than what the worlds religions propose. In their brilliant minds they are fools. Folly knows nothing. Folly lacks Bible doctrine, lacks orientation to truth. Folly is the lie of the jungle. Folly offers bread and water and convinces people that these are the best that there is. Wisdom offers the meats and wines of a fabulous banquet. Once you have had bread and water, and then are provided meats and wines, then you come to know that folly is really nothing. It is death. You learn that Gods offering is vastly superior to what this earth has to offer. Wisdom calls to everyone. Folly sits in her door and seeks those who might pass by and then puts out her own call of deception. Folly also sits in the high places of the city, in places of authority. But these places of authority are false. These are the philosophies of the world that mislead and misdirect people in life. False things like 'you are what you eat', 'better opportunities exist when you have connections with people in high places', 'evolution concepts', and the list goes on and on seemingly forever. Folly knows nothing. Once I said that if you do not have doctrine in the soul then you were stupid. This offended some folks, but the truth is simply that if you ignore Bible doctrine, you really are stupid. Stupid has to do with orientation to truth, and not your IQ. You can have a very high IQ and still be stupid - lack of Gods Word in your soul. The result of stupidity? At worse, if there is rejection of Christ, then the lake of fire is your destiny. Some would call that a stupid decision. Especially when all you have to do is simply believe in Christ. That thought process takes you all of a second or two.. 'Father, I believe in Christ.' Who would let all of life go by and reject this thought? To pursue folly (everything except Gods Word) is to pursue that which is dead. The next worse thing in rejection of Gods Word, as a believer, is the loss of spiritual growth. Here you lose all opportunity for a better life. And you lose all your opportunities in life by means of your own decisions. How many of us would go into the finest of restaurants, with a very hungry appetite, with an unlimited supply of money, and order crackers and water? The stupid ones of course. Ever heard of prime rib and lobster, the salad of your dreams, and a long list of other foods and beverages? Such is wisdom's offering. Everyone in life is naive. Everyone in life lacks understanding. Therefore all need to be aware of doctrine and its potentials, and God makes that information available. All need to turn positive and want Gods Wisdom. Some do. Most do not. If you are positive and learning and growing up spiritually, then you are in a minority. The only true minority in existence. You are chasing life and eternal rewards that are certain and beyond imagination. Those who chase folly are chasing death (the opposite of life). They are blinded by their own ignorance, but then it is their choice, and their choice alone.
