Prov. 11:9

Lesson # Prov. 11:9
Study Material - Prov. 11:9

You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth.

Prov. 11:9

9 An hypocrite [chaneph] with his mouth [peh] destroyeth [shachath] his neighbour [rea] : but through knowledge [daath] shall the just [tsaddiyq] be delivered [chalats] . KJV-Interlinear

Prov. 11:9

9 With his mouth the godless man destroys his neighbor, But through knowledge the righteous will be delivered. NAS

There are a couple of words that we need to be aware of. First, the word for knowledge above used is, 'da-ath.' I placed a little dash inside it to show that it has two syllables. It is comparable to the Greek word, 'gnosis.' The second word is the Hebrew word used in a prior verse, wisdom, which is 'chokmah' and that is comparable to the Greek 'epignosis.'

Both are important here because they refer to two different levels of comprehension and use of information in the soul. The first word, 'daath' or 'gnosis' are used for understanding information. This is common to all academic learning. We learn in school, we learn by reading the newspaper or other publications. We learn by watching TV and listening to the radio, and just with talking with other people. This is information which travels through your eyes and ears, so to speak, and into your soul. This type of learning is available to all humans - believers, unbelievers, smart, dumb, beautiful, and ugly alike. It does not matter whether you are tall or short, fat or thin. We all learn in the same general manner. We read, we listen (or not) and that information goes into our souls and is there for us to form our abilities, our opinions and beliefs in life.

I have a chart of the soul on the Index page which gives a picture of the unbeliever and of the believer's soul and their functions with respect to general academic knowledge and with respect to Bible doctrine.

Now, there is the second set of words, 'chokmah' and 'epignosis.' These give us a more in depth view of the information we learn. These represent knowledge possessed or mastered. For example we can see the letters of a foreign language and we can understand them, or relate them as being foreign letters. That is simply knowledge, but it does not mean that we can read and speak the language. When we study that foreign language and are then able to read that foreign language, speak it fluently, and write it, then we have mastered it to a point. This is a more in depth understanding which we call wisdom or knowledge possessed or mastered. This is much more than a simple and superficial understanding.

Why do we need to know this for this verse (and others for that matter)? It helps us to relate to a couple of things. First, the wicked person is limited to the knowledge of the world. The wicked person (believer or unbeliever) is anyone who rejects Gods word, therefore he is limited in his orientation to life. The wicked can master the information of this world, but he cannot master Bible doctrine. The wicked can read and listen to the Bible and its teaching, but that is limited to academic knowledge only.

Only the believer in fellowship has the means of converting Bible doctrine into 'epignosis,' mastered knowledge, in the soul. The negative believer cannot do this. Fellowship is the key to this conversion of information process. The unbeliever certainly cannot convert anything spiritual simply because they lack a human spirit through which this conversion process occurs.

Now our verse. The godless man (anyone, unbeliever or believer out of fellowship, who is negative toward God) destroys his neighbor with his mouth. Where does the speech originate from? His soul. The mouth is driven by the thought process (except for teenage girls and then there is nothing that controls the mouths - yak, yak, yak, yak, yak). Only when you get to teenagers will you find exceptions to the known universe!!!

What you think, is what you are. The negative person absorbs only academic information and can never go beyond the use of that information. The believer who is positive however, has an advantage, the spiritual value and power of Bible doctrine which is not available to anyone who rejects it.

So, through, and this word is the key, 'through.' Through what? Through knowledge (Bible doctrine). Through the spiritual power of the wisdom gained through Bible doctrine, the righteous (believers) will be delivered.

Now all believers are delivered from the power of sin and death. We do not have to know anything in life to receive this promise. But there is a power and an advantage for those believers who are positive toward Bible doctrine, to those who study, who learn, who remain in fellowship, who apply Bible doctrine to their daily lives, and this advantage gives them the privilege of seeing life with more clarity, of avoiding problems, of riding through problems and otherwise of having a much better life than they would otherwise have if they were negative.

We can only get to spiritual growth through the learning process and that requires a positive attitude toward God and His Word. Anyone who compromises their spiritual learning process will find themselves lacking in Gods wisdom, and therefore imitating all others who are negative toward God. The information of this world can never deliver from sin and death. The information of this world can never produce spiritual growth.

Now is the time to post a prayer.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
