You must be in fellowship prior to your Bible study, so that the spiritual information you receive can become a source, of blessing to your soul and produce spiritual growth. Proverbs 13:14 14 The law [towrah] of the wise [chakam] is a fountain [maqowr] of life [chay], to depart [cuwr] from the snares [mowqesh] of death [maveth]. KJV-Interlinear 14 The teaching of the wise is a fountain of life, To turn aside from the snares of death. NASB The law, refers to the fundamental principles of truth taught in the Bible. If one does not learn directly from the Bible, then the only other avenue to learn truth is to learn indirectly from its influence on society in general. Truth delivers a person from its opposite. The opposite of truth is the lie. Anything which is not of the Bible is a lie. The first truth we all need to learn is of course the truth regarding salvation. A person is born into this world spiritually dead. Death is the function of a separation from something. In some cases that separation is a violent separation as in physical death when the soul leaves the body. We have already studied that, as being characterized as a violent ripping of the soul from the physical body. That does not mean that death will be painful, but when the soul leaves the body there is some form of supernatural event which separates the bond between the body and the soul. The body and soul have to have some form of bond otherwise we might be walking along down the sidewalk and our soul would simply fall out. Wouldn't that be embarrassing? Arms and legs grasping blindly for its soul while everyone around was watching. But of course we have the kindness of God and His super glue, which holds our soul in our body until He rips it out. But, death also refers to ones separation from blessing. We can be out of fellowship and therefore dead to an active relationship with God. And that is the meaning here. Wisdom is the ultimate result of a steadfast daily Bible study plan for ones life. You listen, learn, apply, and grow up spiritually. The culmination of it all is wisdom, or discernment in decision making. Good decisions give opportunities. Good decisions in the spiritual realm bring blessings from God who is the ultimate fountain of life. A fountain which provides blessing and prosperity and contentment to the maximum. The alternative is a poor decision pattern in life. Decisions which ignore ones spiritual life. This separates you from God, and separates you from His provision in spiritual grace. The snares of death, or the snares of separation from God, from His blessing, from a life which has any semblance of good in it, will come when you only ignore God, His Word, and consequently your own spiritual life. There is only one way in life to avoid this disaster, and that is to hunker down and study and learn daily, His Word. The Bible does not teach you the secret formula for a better rocket fuel. It does not give you the plans for a better mouse trap. But the Bible does give you all that you need to power up your faith and hold on to it. And that is your path to a greater life both now and in eternity.
