Psalm 17:7

7 Shew thy marvellous [palah] lovingkindness, [checed] O thou that savest [yasha`] by thy right hand [yamiyn] them which put their trust [chacah] in thee from those that rise up [quwm] against them. KJV-Interlinear

7 Wondrously show Thy lovingkindness, O Savior of those who take refuge at Thy right hand From those who rise up against them.  NASB

The word for marvelous, 'palah,' means to distinguish, great, to set apart, to put a difference, to separate.

Lovingkindness, 'checed,' means favor, mercy.

Here David in his prayer, is asking God to distinguish between His normal mercies or favor, and send to David, better favors, better mercies, greater or a higher level of attention and help.

Right hand, is an expression meaning to do something that comes natural, or by habit, or something that God has already done and does because it is in His character to repeat that which He has already done. The right hand often times suggests the hand of honor or priority, or that which is accomplished naturally.

It is reasonable to ask God to do that which is in His character to do. It is not correct to ask God to do something that is not in His character to do.

The right hand also represents the power by which things are accomplished.

Those who rise up against, is a reference to all enemies, or specific enemies.

If God is for us, then who can stand against us? If we are the favored, then greater favor comes naturally. And that is the idea being conveyed. God is for all, who comply with His will. God is the ultimate power, overwhelming all other powers combined, and then far more. God favors all who comply with His will.

Gods will is truth, not lies. Gods will is good, not evil. Gods will is fair, not unfair. Gods will is reality, not pretense or invention or imagination, not detachment from reality.

It is not unreasonable to request or expect greater favor from God, since it is in His nature and character to grant same, to those who pursue His instruction and thus are advancing to spiritual maturity.

End Of Lesson

Study to show thyself approved (mature) unto God, a workman that needs not to be ashamed, rightly dividing (studying/discerning), the Word of truth.
