Psalm 20:5

http://www.dailybiblestudy.org

5 We will rejoice [ranan] in thy salvation, [yashuw`ah] and in the name [shem] of our God ['elohiym] we will set up our banners: [dagal] the LORD [Yahovah] fulfil [male'] all thy petitions. [mish'alah] KJV-Interlinear

5 We will sing for joy over your victory, And in the name of our God we will set up our banners. May the Lord fulfill all your petitions.  NASB

This verse ends the prayer and is then followed by a pause. The change of speaker in the next verse reflects the poetic pause.

The salvation referred to here is to all the victories that God gives us throughout our life. Salvation and deliverance from eternal condemnation is the ultimate victory and the all important victory that everyone can have by simply believing in Christ.

But throughout life, God gives us many victories, most of which we probably will never know about.

But just living and continuing in life in this devils world is a victory, especially when Satan and evil would prefer that we all die out and without God.

Still too, we have the necessary ingredients for an even greater life, both now and especially in our eternal future. And those ingredients are all of the contents of the scriptures, and our spiritual life, and the spiritual growth that will qualify us for a phenomenal eternity.

Rejoice here, means to celebrate as one who celebrates with yelling and screaming of happiness when an extremely close and difficult competition finally tilts in your favor and you win. There is jubilance and pandemonium and excitement at the victory.

If you live through this life and suddenly all of your burdens and worries and troubles are lifted from you, then your joy and peace and happiness will explode in happiness and celebration.

And that is how you should look to all of Gods victories, the big ones and the little ones, the ones you know about and the ones that you will never know about.

Focus on troubles, gains you nothing. But in every day of your life there are those things that you should recognize and for which you should be thankful.

To focus on your troubles and complain with endless complaining, simply states that you have no confidence or faith in God and His plan for your life. When has a worry ever gained you anything? When has a complaint gained you anything? Certainly everything negative never advances your spiritual life even an inch, but in fact sets you back more and more.

Therefore set your banners, your flags, your attention and expressions of faith in God and doctrine. It is that which will carry you through life, not emotional or bitter reactions.

There will be no shortage of things to be bitter about or to complain about. But you are still here, are you not?

And then there is the final part of this prayer, that the Lord will grant you all of your petitions. A petition is a request, and we all ask God for things, continually.

But God is not a genie. And God does not recognize the requests of a negative person. God ignores all things coming from and spiritually negative person. God ignores all requests coming from a spiritually disobedient person. Consider your rejection of Gods mandates and expectations of you, and consider wisely, not foolishly.

You have to look at God first, obey His mandates, which are simply that you grow up in your spiritual life. Then God will take care of all the things that you need in life, things that He will supply to maximize your spiritual completeness.

Those things may include things, but more likely, God will supply you with that which will advance your spiritual growth to an ultimate victory for all of eternity. And that most certainly will include pressures in life, in order to test and prove your spiritual toughness.

Therefore be thankful in all things, both good and bad.

Your ultimate banner is the entrenched doctrine in your soul, its continual legitimate use and application to your life, and your ultimate spiritual growth and mental toughness and mental attitude that leads you to the strongest faith possible, regardless of your circumstances.

Therefore, whether you live in a fine mansion, or are curled up in the dregs of a refugee camp, look first to God, and understand that your situation is there to teach you, to test you, to prove you, and to ultimately vindicate you with the greatest victory possible.

Gods will comes first and foremost. Your will does not count, but must change to be in line with Gods will and plan for all of human history and for His plan for your personal life.

God has a phenomenal plan for your life and often times that plan is redirected through many detours due to your stubborn attitude toward Him and doctrine. Think about it.
